E. Jaffe's TOP ALBUMS

5.0 Promo Photo Nelly - “5.0”

“Solid album. I wouldn't put it on par with Nelly's older stuff but it's a decent album in its own right. Nathan, the album is called 5.0 because it's Nelly's 5th release date. Sweat and Suit were released at the same time (and were then combined into one album). It's a pretty awful title anyway but I figured I would help end your confusion. lol.”

The Lady Killer Promo Photo Cee-Lo Green - “The Lady Killer”

“In a year of great albums, Cee-Lo's The Lady Killer has been the best of the best for me. The man is so versatile it makes me want to stop listening to anyone else. Fucking incredible album. Reminds me of the best Chicago records.”

Distant Relatives Promo Photo Nas & Damian Marley - “Distant Relatives”

“Excellent day for music today. Personally, I enjoyed Janelle Monae's ArchAndroid a bit more than Distant Relatives but both albums deserve this "Classic" rating in their own right. Talib + Hi-Tek would get a 3.5 from me.”

I Want You Promo Photo Theophilus London - “I Want You”

“I'm one of those nerdy Arcade Fire fans so you already know what it is. (Honestly, one of the best all-around artists still making music. They're not quite Radiohead though.) Near-classic album.”

Rise Up Promo Photo Cypress Hill - “Rise Up”

“Great review. I've never been a huge Cypress Hill fan but this was a real nice album. "Armanda Latina" is the highlight for me. This is a solid 4 stars.”

Wu-Massacre Promo Photo Meth, Ghost & Rae - “Wu-Massacre”

“Review was on point. However, Ghost is the best storyteller in Hip-Hop? I don't think so. He's definitely up there but what about Slug (from Atmosphere), Slick Rick, or KRS-1? Ghost would be in my top 5 but I don't know about "the best". lol.”

Slaughterhouse Promo Photo Slaughterhouse - “Slaughterhouse”

“I get on the booth this morning to see that Slaughterhouse has gotten their album reviewed and one thing pops into my mind, "Here's our first 5 spins, classic, album". I'm surprised to see I was wrong. Nathan's review is overall positive with no real negative comments made yet it wasn't worth of a 5. That's alright though, it's just an opinion. Here's mine: Slaughterhouse, the album, is the best collaborative project since Wu-Tang first stepped on the scene, and is definitely worthy of my 'classic' rating. While I'm not a fan of each of these artists individually, (while none of them are bad, they never really stood out to me) the group embodies the statement "united we stand, divided we fall". Lyrically, the album is a masterpiece on essentially every song; never once slowing down. Considering how rare this is in modern rap music, consistency alone warrants a '4.5' from me. Once production is taken into account, that '4.5' becomes a '5' easy. The beats on this one are crazy. A huge step up from any of the artists' solo projects. This is a 5 star compilation.”

Blackout! 2 Promo Photo Method Man & Redman - “Blackout! 2”

“Very solid album but pales in comparison to the original; which is an instant classic. A lot of bangers on here though. P.S. @ Nathan - If I could hang out with one artist I'd have to go with Luda. He seems very similar to Red in terms of personality but I feel as if Luda has got more to do than just smoke. I mean, the guy stars in Oscar winning films, owns an extremely successful restaurant in downtown ATL and sponsors several websites; he's all over the place. On that note, I would LOVE to see a Ludacris & Redman collaboration. Something tells me the duo would work beautifully together.”

Relapse Promo Photo Eminem - “Relapse”

“@DJ Something - "Troubadour", "Sickology 101" (maybe) and, if we're not only speaking hip hop, "Love vs. Money" were all superior to Relapse. Don't get me wrong. The album is hot. It's just not up to Em's potential. In your comparison to Deeper than Rap: Deeper than rap will be Ross' magnum opus; the best album he ever releases. With that said, Relapse can't touch Eminem's classics with a 10 foot pole. So, if you're questioning which album is more impressive, then "Deeper Than Rap" is by a long shot. Don't get me wrong, Relapse is a better album but it disappointed me just as much as Ross surprised me. So, in turn, I feel a bit less satisfied with this album than I did with DTR.”

Asleep In The Bread Aisle Promo Photo Asher Roth - “Asleep In The Bread Aisle”

“I personally enjoyed this album. Oren Yoel definitely brought some original production to the table and Asher's lyrics are always on point. I don't understand either of the two reviews above me (Nathan's is somewhat accurate). What you have to realize is that this is TRULY a demonstration of talent; no big producers, few guest spots, etc. This is the definition of a self-made album of the caliber we have not seen since Ludacris dropped "Back for the First Time" (in sense it succeeded solely off talent). The fact that this album remains at the top spot of the iTunes Rap chart (above "Deeper Than Rap") signifies this. This is Asher's album and, because of this, the independence of the whole project is very impressive. I'm loving the sound as a whole. Granted, the album has some weaker tracks, but remains captivating throughout. Never too mainstream, but never underground, this album strikes the perfect balance between radio friendly and street cred. It's not a classic by any means but it earned my 4 stars. 'Nuff said.”

Forever in a Day Promo Photo Day26 - “Forever in a Day”

“Classic ratings? Naw, I don't think so. (@ liltib3 - have you heard "Love vs. Money"? It's a pretty safe bet this album doesn't hold a candle to it, haha) Anyways, the album definitely has potential and the boys are definitely talented but there's no real classic tracks on here; a few bangers and some that are in rotation but nothing to get excited about. As Nathan said, it will definitely get money in Diddy's pockets (or is it P. Diddy again? That's how he's listed on the CD credits)”

R.O.O.T.S Promo Photo Flo Rida - “R.O.O.T.S”

“As someone who views Flo Rida as a no-talent, radio-whoring, piece of garbage, I fully enjoyed this album. I normally agree with Nathan's reviews but this has too many classic club songs to just be "Above Average"; a banger at the least. Lyrically, this could be stronger and, yes, Flo Rida sticks to the same formula throughout, but, hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. One of the best club albums I've heard in a while. While not in the same league lyrically or talent-wise, the production on this is similar to my favorite album in years, Love vs. Money; and that's a plus.”

Love vs. Money Promo Photo The-Dream - “Love vs. Money”

“It's no exaggeration when I say that this album is one of the best I've heard in years and possibly the best mainstream R&B album since Usher's Confessions. The-Dream isn't the best vocalist in the world but he makes up for it 100% with top-shelf production and excellent lyrics. Love/Hate is continued to be played on my iPod until this day ("Nikki" & "Fast Car" have over 100 plays each) and I expect to be playing this album for years to come as well. I'm also glad Nathan noticed the striking similarity between Love vs. Money and Nikki; the latter obviously serving as LvM's foundation. (Fun Fact: Love vs. Money Part II features the same moaning sounds as Nikki; an allusion of sorts). Anyways, this album is a classic and there is little doubt in my mind that I will ever get tired of it. I can't wait to hear his next offering.”
