Pitbull - “Planet Pit”
“I love Pitbull's music because he knows how to craft the perfect hit: case in point with his current one, 'Give me Everything'- a Westside Story-esque croon from Ne-Yo, Afrojack's European electro production mixed with the right blend of American pop, and not overly-complex rhyming. Although I agree: the former storytelling art has been inundated with a series of club jams with sub-bass amplification capability, Pitbull and Flo Rida and people like them know how to make them extremely well and you can't hate on 'em for getting their green.” DJ SonicFLOOD's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Tinie Tempah - “Disc-Overy”
“I actually liked the Range and Rowland contributions from 'Just a Little' and 'Invincible' respectively; don't see why it was cut. I dig the beats, and I think it's the European electro side of me that loves Miami 2 Ibiza and Frisky, which have both blown up in the UK. Let Go, Illusion, and Simply Unstoppable were also other non-single favourites (in addition to 'Wonderman' and UK beat of the year 'Pass Out').” DJ SonicFLOOD's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Wiz Khalifa - “Rolling Papers”
“Solid mainstream debut; it appeals to many in the pop audience, and loving the triple entendre to its name. Reception seems really polarized; the post-B&Y fans loving this, while the older hardcore Taylors criticising their unfamiliarity with his crossover into the mainstream appeal. Yeah, loving "The Race"; hypnotic beat, a dope singalong chorus (bad pun); gotta acquire that instru... probably one of my favourites in the album. As much as I hate to say it, I'm really digging his current singles out there (as well as the potential tracks to become singles); I just want to get their choruses out of my head right now...” DJ SonicFLOOD's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Travis Barker - “Give the Drummer Some”
“Super dope project! I'm diggin' most of the songs on here. The intro in "Knockin'" doesn't even sound human... The verses of "Let's Go" are INSANE. Same with "Raw Shit". Carry It" is so unbelievably dope that I don't know how to describe it... So is the Slaughterhouse track. "Don't Fuck wit' Me" is pretty decent. "If U Want To" sounds like throwback Neptunes and Lupe, "Just Chill" and "Cool Head", and "City of Dreams" are both lyrical and catchy. "Misfits" with house producer Steve Aoki was innovative, but I didn't think it worked out. "Can a Drummer get Some?" had a dope beat, but mediocre verses and an annoying hook. The "Saturday Nights" one retained a good rock feel though; so hip-hop doesn't totally dominate. Good crossover records, that might introduce a few of the hardcore Blink-182 and punk rock bands to the lyricism that some of the more innovative lyricists in hip-hop.” DJ SonicFLOOD's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Lupe Fiasco - “Lasers”
“Lupe Fiasco is one of the few lyricists I know to spit something meaningful and lyrical over pop-esque choruses and catchy production, to appeal to more than just the mainstream fanbase. This is especially present over: "I Don't Wanna Care Right Now" "Break the Chain" "Never Forget You" "Words I Never Said" "Show Goes On" "Outta my Head" "Shining Down" "I'm Beaming"” DJ SonicFLOOD's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
