J Roc the Legend's TOP ALBUMS

Take Care Promo Photo Drake - “Take Care”

“Pretty much in agreement with Nathans review here. I feel like Drake displayed a variety of sounds and sides of his artistry on this album. Not only that, but he did it in a way that feels cohesive. This is what his fans love to hear from him, seamlessly flowing in and out of rhymes and croons. I like that he beefed up the album a little bit to try and give it that epic So Far Gone kind of feel, however it ended up with about as much fluff as So Far Gone had as well (we certainly all could've done without Practice). I'm not going to go too much into the arguing here, but anyone that's so anti-Drake that they dismiss him from being a hip hop artist is at least a little ignorant and close-minded. I understand that not everybody is going to be a fan, but Drake has proven and continues to prove on quite a few tracks on this album that he can keep up rhyme wise with pretty much any name in hip hop, mainstream or not. Favorite Tracks: Underground Kings, Headlines, Marvins Room, We'll Be Fine, HYFR, Cameras, Crew Love”

Cole World: The Sideline Story Promo Photo J. Cole - “Cole World: The Sideline Story”

“So I've heard a couple of tracks here and there from J. Cole, but this is the first time I've really listened to an entire body of work from him. I never got around to hearing his mixtapes, but apparently I need to. I'm very impressed with this album and I now understand all the hype that's been building up about him. Overall, I agree with Nathan on the review tho. I don't think any of the songs are flat out bad, but there are definitely some that feel out of place, like "Mr Nice Watch" and even "Can't Get Enough." However, songs like "Never Told" and "Lost Ones" totally make me understand why J. Cole gets the Nas comparisons. Pretty much the entire last half of the album is nearly flawless. Nobody in mainstream rap today is making songs like this. It feels like there was pressure for Cole to come out with a track that would get more radio play. I'd personally rather him just do his thing. Overall a really good cd tho. Even though the album as a whole doesnt live up to the hype, there are quite a few songs that prove why the hype is there.”

The R.E.D. Album Promo Photo Game - “The R.E.D. Album”

“Good to hear that Game is finally back to form! I, like many others, was expecting this album to be his worst yet. I found myself pleasantly surprised. The City is one of his best tracks ever, featuring an amazing closing verse from Kendrick Lamar. I was also really impressed with tracks like Ricky and Born in the Trap. Other than those amazing songs, Speakers on Blast and Hello are really easy songs to jock in the car or vibe out to. I'll also throw in Martians vs. Golbins and Good Girls Go Bad as some repeatable tracks. I'm not a regular follower of Tyler, The Creator, but he sounded real cool. Then you have Drake, who rarely fails at contributing to any track he's on. Game sounds motivated on this album, and lyrically as good as I can ever remember him. When I think about it, he really hasn't sounded bad on his mixtapes much except when he's trying to make a hit for radio, which is really the only thing missing from the album. He's very good at filling a song with depth in a way that makes it compelling to listen to. If he can cruise at this level of quality on albums, he'll be alright.”

Watch the Throne Promo Photo The Throne - “Watch the Throne”

“Wow Kanye does it again on the production tip. Another amazing body of work, this time with Jay-Z, who is still pretty much lyrically untouchable. I agree with Nathan that Kanye is a more polarizing figure today in hip-hop, making some of his verses more interesting to hear. Very hard to pick favorites on here since there really isn't a bad song on the cd, but there are some that I really can't stop hearing. This along with Kanye's last cd can really stand the test of time, although I do believe Kanye's last solo cd was better (a little). Top 5 tracks: Who Gon Stop Me, N****s in Paris, Primetime, Murder To Excellence, That's My B***h”

Rolling Papers Promo Photo Wiz Khalifa - “Rolling Papers”

“Totally enjoying this album. For the most part, I feel that Wiz Khalifa made a good decision to stick to the subject matter that he knows. As a result, it's pretty much a slightly more pop-sounding version of the music he's already been making. Sort of a good way to possibly bring in new fans without alienating too many longtime Wiz followers. I've been following Wiz on and off since he came out with "Say Yeah", so it's good to see that this dude is finally gettin some big-time shine since he's been on it for a while. "Black and Yellow" was a HUGE track, probably one of my personal favorite songs ever. "Roll Up" will hopefully continue in the direction it's going, too. What I like most about Wiz in this cd is his flow and delivery. He's able to switch up his flow midway through verses, while at the same time maintaining the laid back vibe of the song. It's pretty cool because he does it on a way that no one else does. Favorite Track: Black and Yellow, Roll Up, When I'm Gone, The Race, Star of the Show”

Late Nights & Early Mornings Promo Photo Marsha Ambrosius - “Late Nights & Early Mornings”

“I, like Nathan, really enjoy the features Marsha Ambrosius does on other people's songs, especially Jamie Foxx's "Freakin' Me." That's probably my favorite Foxx song ever, and it was all because of her. This album had me hooked, especially the first 5 tracks. There's really not a bad song on here. The only complaint I would possibly have is that I would've left off the cover songs. The cover songs aren't bad at all, but the majority of the album is produced and written by her, which is insanely impressive. I just would've loved to hear more of that. I definitely plan on repeating this cd for a long time to come. Favorite Tracks: With You, Hope She Cheats On You, Far Away, Chasing Clouds, I Want You To Stay”

The ArchAndroid Promo Photo Janelle Monáe - “The ArchAndroid”

“I just heard this cd a couple times in a row and omg! I listened to it from start to finish and within the first 4 tracks I pretty much dropped my jaw. This is classic, original, creative stuff. It's great that Diddy let janelle monae do her thing. It doesn't seem like he had any involvement whatsoever. I liked Dance Or Die and Faster, but when Locked Inside hit my ears, I was so amazed. I also really liked Tightrope, Cold War, and Wondaland. I'm sure I'll like even more songs as I keep listening to this one. I hope mainstream music makes a place for Janelle Monae. Music needs something this original to move the industry.”

Ollusion Promo Photo Omarion - “Ollusion”

“I've been jockin this since it came out. For the most part I agree with Nathan that the worst songs are the ones like hoodie. I think speedin was a good album choice to show that Omarion can really be a big-time r&b artist. My personal favorites are Last Night and Sweet Hangover.”

The Blueprint 3 Promo Photo Jay-Z - “The Blueprint 3”

“I've ben jockin this album since it came out yesterday. I went through the first eight tracks and I loved about seven of them. Then the second half came along and I as kinda disappointed. Some of the songs were really bad and some were okay. I was so surprised that the Timbo tracks weren't epic. Timbaland is still my favorite producer, but he needs to hurry up and reinvent his sound again. I somewhat agree with Nathan on that. "Hate" was just awful and the Swizz Beatz track was atrocious. There were some awesome tracks on here tho. The track with Jeezy was hot! "Empire State of Mind" was cool. "Thank You" was a cool track. "D.O.A", "Run This Town" and "Off That" are hot! The Pharrell track was ok, but it was no "Allure" as Mike Dreams put it. Overrall I enjoy this album. I threw some disses at it mainly because I expected something to compare to the first Blueprint album. This isn't Jay at his best, but its still better than most rap albums out here this year. There's definitely a few tracks on here that I'll play for a good while and add to my large Jay-Z playlist on my ipod lol. Don't stop makin music! Keep it comin!”

Relapse Promo Photo Eminem - “Relapse”

“I al so excited that hip-hop has come back. It may not be his best album ever, but it is better and more original than almost any hp-hop album that's come out in a while. I went out and bought this album yesterday and I've been playing it nonstop ever since. I thought I would be let down because of that dumb accent he uses in "We Made You" and a couple of other songs, but he actually doesn't use it as much as I thought he would. He's got the sickest flow in songs like "Insane," "Underground," and "Hello." His lyrics are so compelling in almost every single song as he raps about the most disturbing images. "Beautiful" is a great choice for a following single. I also like the songs "Medicine Ball" and "Deja Vu." Lil' Wayne just lost his top spot. He better step his game up on his next album.”

Universal Mind Control Promo Photo Common - “Universal Mind Control”

“I didn't expect this to be any groundbreaking album. This is just Common tryin to have fun and do something different from albums like "Be" and "Finding Forever." I enjoyed it for what it was. Although ill have to hear the remix, I enjoyed "Punch Drunk Love." It reminds me of a slower, more distorted, technoish version of Jay-Z's "I Know," which is my all-time favorite song. I also liked "Changes," "Inhale," and "Everywhere." He should do more songs with that Everywhere" vibe. I hope he doesn't do another "Sex 4 Suga" tho. He sounded really out of place there, putting together rhymes that would sound way better coming from LL Cool J or someone else. Overall its a cool listen.”

Paper Trail Promo Photo T.I. - “Paper Trail”

“IMO T.I's KING album was definitely the best album T.I. ever did. It was full of swagger and everything just like T.I. said, and it had a good balance of bangers (like "What You Know" and "Get It") and smooth songs (like "Why You Wanna" and "Goodlife"). I was hoping T.I. would come out with a better CD, but I didn't expect it since I'm not a HUGE T.I. fan. However, last week, when I heard a leaked version of his new "Paper Trail" album, my hopes came true. This album is sick. We already know about hits like "Whatever You Like" and "Swagga Like Us." He's als got other songs that I instantly liked, which were "Live Your Life" and "My Life, Your Entertainment." It's worth buying just for those two songs alone. I'm surprised it got a 4 and not at least 4.5 because there really isn't one lame song on here. Even though I heard it last week, I'm definitely gonna buy it tomorrow when it comes out. Everyone should buy it because it's worth the money.”

Year Of The Gentleman Promo Photo Ne-Yo - “Year Of The Gentleman”

“The only thing missing from this album is a freaky Ne-Yo style track that I know he could've pulled off. I guess according to Ne-Yo, gentleman can't be freaks. There were some sick songs on here, though, like "Fade Into The Background" and "Nobody." "Back to What You Know" and "Lie To Me" hit me hard as well. "Closer" and "Miss Independent" are good additions. of course. I'm so glad that Ne-Yo is finally putting out the classic R&B albums I've known that he could do since his debut album. The potential of this amazing songwriter is limitless!”

We Global Promo Photo DJ Khaled - “We Global”

“This was definitely the best of DJ Khaled's albums. Khaled decided to bring some different sounds to his albums with songs like "She's Fine" and "Go Ahead." "She's Fine" is a sick break-dancing Danja track with cool verses from Missy, Sean Paul, and Busta. "Go Ahead" was a cool club banger as well. It's already been reviewed on DJBooth, but "Go Hard" is the best track on the album. The songs with Nas and The Game were both aight, too. Its still songs like "Blood Money" that hurt the album. Oh and I don't see why everyone thinks DJ Khaled is so annoying. If he is annoying, its only in the funniest possible way.”

Look What You Made Me Promo Photo Yung Berg - “Look What You Made Me”

“As a pop-rap album, this is good stuff. Even though it came out a year and a half ago, I like hearing "Sexy Lady" again, even though the remix was way better. I liked "Do That There" cause the beat was super-hard. Yung Berg really does do best with hip-hop R&B crossovers. Even though DJBooth featured "Manager" ages ago, its still a cool song. Lloyd is amazing at his ad-libs and crooning. He really makes that song sick. "Outerspace" is also a good choice for a next single. He needs to step up his rap game, though. This album definitely shows that he's got potential to be a force in pop-rap.”
