Deeper Than Rap Promo Photo Rick Ross - “Deeper Than Rap”

“This is not quite "Near-classic" material like I had expected from hearing the first few tracks, but it is a very solid effort from Ross and 10 steps forward for him as an artist. The biggest thing apparent on this album is that Ross has realized what type of production and vibe work best for him on a track. He really matured on this project, although that's not to say that we will hear any great storytelling or lyricism. The braggin and drug references are still over the top, but it's done in a classy way. Granted, the success of the album comes mostly from the production and guest features, Ricky was able to maximize his artistry with what he surrounded himself with. Top 5 Tracks: (besides the lead single) 1. Maybach Music 2 2. Rich Off Cocaine 3. Murda Mami (Ricky using wordplay?) 4. Gunplay 5. Usual Suspects”

Asleep In The Bread Aisle Promo Photo Asher Roth - “Asleep In The Bread Aisle”

“3.5 - This was a very solid debut by Asher Roth. His lyrical ability is undeniable and his flow/subject matter are generally on point. Despite the tracklist looking like he was trying to cater to everyone at the same time, I enjoyed every track on the album. I did think that he could have been more creative with his subject matter in some tracks, and with his wordplay. The kid has a vicious vocabulary, and I really want to see it in full force. On tracks like I Love College and She Dont Wanna Man I don't feel like he used his talent to the fullest of his abilities. I'm lookin for him to come back wit his sophomore album and blow me outta the water wit his more mature and focused sound. Top Picks: 1. Fallin' (IDK, I guess cuz I can relate) 2. Lark On My Go-Cart (nice wordplay and funny pop culture references/oh, and a fun vibe) 3. Sour Patch Kids (wordplay and deep political thinking not found elsewhere on the album) 4. Lion Roar (showcasing his ability to flow, quickly) 5. His Dream (Deep storytelling ability)”
