Drake - “Thank Me Later”
“"Dare to be great." That's what comes to mind when I listened to this album because Drake obviously took some big risks with the material. I'm probably gonna be in the minority here and say the album was definitely not bad, but also wasn't anywhere near a classic either. When So Far Gone dropped I had it on repeat in my car for four straight days without skipping a track. Thank Me Later definitely has a few of those moments going through the entire album. I think Thank Me Later would've have definitely been a great, near-classic album if Drake had cut down on the celebrity features and kept it stripped down and simple. Sometimes bombastic is not the way to go. In closing those who love him, ease up, building him up and putting him on a pedestal so early only sets him up for failure anytime he doesn't meet your lofty standards. No one, I repeat, no one not Nas,Jay-Z,Eminem, or Lil Wayne is "perfect" hip hop. Haters let it go. He's never gonna fit into the rigid confines of what you consider "real" or traditional hip hop. In fact none of our greatest hip hop artists ever have. Biggie didn't fit the definition of ladies man. Tupac was a "thug" poet. Eminem might end up being the greatest rapper ever and just happens to be white and Nas could be a modern day Langston Hughes brought up in the projects. Instead of immediately bringing down artists, how about judging on the merit of the music and now how they were hyped up. P.S. No one has ever become great in anything without breaking a few molds” Avothello's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Mariah Carey - “E=MC² ”
“I wasn't a real big fan of Mariah Carey until a few years ago when I went back and listened to a lot of her old catalogue. But between her last album and this album I feel she's finally almost returning to the Mariah Carey she used to be but obviously updated for the new generation. Hey it's better than the vapid emptiness of Honey or Glitter lol” Avothello's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
