Laine94CCC's TOP HIP HOP SINGLES

Lift Off Promo Photo Jay Z - “Lift Off”

“Literally Lift Off is sampled from Apollo 11’s lift off sequence to the moon - and yes I am not joking. I am sorry but when people hate on Kanye which other producer, rather producer-rapper is capable of sampling a sample of Neil Armstrong’s mission to the moon, adding Beyonce to the track and making the chorus be “We gon’ take it the moon take it to the stars, how many people you know can take it this far?” ironically no one it seems. The amazing production from Mike Deans and Kanye West is probably the main reason Lift Off is one of my favourite songs off Watch the Throne. The crescendo trumpet tuba combination added to the piano and the heavy bass prompted by the “all engines running” from the flight controller immediately made me fall in love with this song. Then you hear Beyonce’s chrorus. “Now we gon’ take it to the moon, take it to the stars, You don’t know what we been through to make it this far, So many scars ‘Bout to take this whole thing to Mars” Then we hear the heavy production inclusive but not being limited to snares, synthesizers and 808 Drums, by the way this is all before the first minute even ends. Kanye’s verse was just typically the upbeat “lolsy”, stunting Yeezy “Showin’ my tattoos, I’m such a showoff (Huh?). I feel the pain and then rolled off, I got the whole city, they about to go off” Then we hear the reverb… whoo I got chills at this part.”

Pity Promo Photo J. Cole - “Pity”

“By far the best release on Any Given Sunday. The instrumental by Voli was something else entirely. I literally started to get a tingly feeling inside when the track started… it reminded me of a College Dropout Kanye West track. I honestly could have imagined crying to this sh-t. It was pretty amazing. J. Cole’s lyrics were heart warming and very relatable “hey, hold your head, mama i know you wish that n-gga dead, mama if i can find a way to kill him, i won’t have any drama damn mama, tell me who you love this one is for the boy that sees his mama on drugs if feel your pain, boy.. just know that i been through the same, boy that lady needs you more than ever don’t be ashamed boy cause when it rained, boy, that was your umbrella the one that changed your pissy sheets when you was a young fella and now she in the bedroom on her knees staring at the sky, scraming “lord please!” tell me now: is this the life that you chose for me?” This is up there musically and lyrically and its probably one of the best J. Cole songs over all. Definite classic”

“Kanye West...excellent song. Ode to all little boys with single mothers. Love the production and most of all the lyrics which are very much relateble. Not as tear jerking as Hey Mama its a positive and optimistic song deserving of 4.5 stars. Hope its cleaned up on Watch the Throne”
