Lil Wayne - “RIght Above It”
“I can actually see this smashing the radio for some reason. I thought that Drake went in on this; regardless if it was his Tim Westwood verse. The verse was ill then, and it's ill now. But does anybody notice how the instrumental/production sounds a lot like "Ransom" on some parts? But this was nice. I wonder what this Lil Wayne EP is all about...either way, it should be interesting. Weezy...” Mike Dreams's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nelly - “Just a Dream”
“I swear, you can always count on the people who come to DJBOOTH.NET to listen to music to know GOOD music. I was a Nelly fan way back in the day ("Country Grammar" was the first rap album I ever owned). I've continued to be a mild fan throughout his career; and was sad to see him fall off in the past couple years (if you remember back to like 2001, Nelly was what Drake is now...). But when I heard this, I'm thinking he just may make a more mature and triumphant comeback (something we've just recently witnessed from Eminem). Speaking of Eminem, was I was the only who peeped how this Nelly joint could be a double meaning; using "her" as being symbolic for a woman, but also the "hip-hop" or "music" game? (Similar to one of Eminem's newest records "25 to Life" on his RECOVERY album); especially with lines like "I was at the top, and now it's like I'm in the basement, #1 Spot, now she found a replacement." Either way, I dig it and I'm eager to see what Nelly comes with next... Sidebar: Jim Jonsin's production was pretty dope, but it sounded like a hybrid of Wyclef Jean's "Sweetest Girl" and Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie". LOL. Just sayin'...” Mike Dreams's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Janelle Monáe - “TIghtrope (Wondamix)”
“Man, I liked the original of this and I've gave Janelle's album a spin and I liked it. Her hook sounded awkward on this remix version though. B.o.B killed this! Lupe did as well, as usual. The mixing on his verse was weird though. B.o.B and Janelle definitely outshined Lupe Fiasco on this record, and that is RARE... Still hot...” Mike Dreams's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

QuESt - “Were Going Down”
“I've had this record for a while and it's received so many spins. I'm hoping this joint brings QuESt much needed success and is the beginning of some mainstream attention. I had heard the original "OneRepublic" record before, but didn't go back and listen to it until QuESt sent this over. Now this joint and the original are two of my most favorite joints at the moment! This should be an awesome summer for up and coming hip-hop acts!” Mike Dreams's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

T.I. - “Yeah Ya Know (Takers)”
“This was dope. The only thing is, T.I. making "trap" songs now are bittersweet for me, because right now, it's like him trying to rekindle a time in his career that was more sincere when he was still out there doing the stuff. I liked PAPER TRAIL" because that was him being real to the lane he was in. But it's a dope joint nevertheless...” Mike Dreams's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Drake - “Miss Me”
“"My apologies to my fans that be super-conscious, just wait 'til I get my money right and I am going to ball." - Drake, SHARE (from the 2007 mixtape "COMEBACK SEASON"). Nuff said...lol.” Mike Dreams's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Drake - “Find Your Love”
“You can always count on DJBOOTH listeners to be QUALITY music fans and actually know what good music is. Most of all the other blogs are filled with boneheads hating on this record, not understand the formula or anything. This record to be is incredible. This may sound like blasphemy, but it's better than every record on Kanye's "808s and Heartbreak". It's brighter and Drake can actually sing. I always felt "So Far Gone" was a better version of 808s, with rapping anyways, so this is the perfect hybrid song for my thinking process of the matter. This will be ate up by Pop Radio. What Z said makes SO MUCH sense, and I've recently been disturbed that some of these hip-hop purists out here want to continue to box hip-hop artists into one thing and won't allow them to expand. Luckily, they're the minority of musical consumption nowadays, and will just need to get with the program or continue to stay lost in the sauce. This type of stuff and the CLASSIC (yeah, I said it) B.o.B album and Kid Cudi is where hip-hop, urban music and music in general is headed and I love it. I think overall, the pros of this transition outweigh the cons. We're in for a great decade for music.” Mike Dreams's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

B.o.B - “Airplanes”
“I've been bumping this ALL day. I was so happy I woke up early this morning, because so much good stuff dropped around like 8AM today (Drake's OVER video, Melanie Fiona's AYO video, and this.). This is exactly where hip hop music is headed. I’ve been a big fan of Paramore, so I was hooked when the record first came on. I loves me some Hayley Williams. This will be BIG! I can’t wait to hear the remix with Em. I can hear him on this now! B.O.B has got the formula man! This is the new era of music! Anybody else hating on this needs a life correction.” Mike Dreams's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

B.o.B - “Bet I Bust”
“This is definitely the street banger. People have to understand how the game work and the market. You drop the pop hit, the street singles and other joints. Somebody like B.O.B is one of the most versatile artists out, so he's going to lock down a lot of the musical markets. He's signed to GRAND HUSTLE, so you know he had to have a street cut with the homey T.I. on the album, and that will get the street cats and urban market on it. He's smart. T.I. outshined everyone on this though. MY GOODNESS. DA KING HOMEY!” Mike Dreams's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Gudda Gudda - “I Don't Like the Look (Willy Wonka)”
“I am thoroughly convinced that most of you already have a bias to call anything with Gudda Gudda or Young Money wack just because you feel like you need to as a hip hop fan. I've always thought Gudda Gudda was quite wack, but I've been listening to this record on repeat this weekend. It's quite dope. Gudda almost delivered even better than Wayne and I can't deny that he actually brought some good lines and skill here. Don't be the person to forever generalize an artist based on an initial introduction or a prior frame of reference. The production was certainly on point. Jahlil went in. You can say this is Gudda's version of "Ransom" like Drake had with Wayne. I'm pretty sure this will put him on more peoples' radar and will help him advance his career. I can't deny effort. Quotables. "I come with toy boy like a happy meal, and you's a motherf*ckin' duck, Daffy Deal." "I'm from the school of hard knocks where we scrap and kill, pick the knife or gun, or you can get the package deal."” Mike Dreams's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Toki Wright - “Out of Nothing”
“The homey Toki performed this live at my album release party last night. Man, that snare hits SO lovely on the big venue speakers. This joint is off the chains. I definitely like to hear Toki over more soulful productions, that usually comes from Reggie Reg. Minnesota doing it big!” Mike Dreams's Rating:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
