Technics SL-DZ1200 User Reviews

Technics SL-DZ1200 CD-MP3 Turntable is Technics long-awaited entry into the digital turntable market. Sporting an extremely sleek look and impressive features, the SL-DZ1200 is sure to make as big of an impact as the SL-1200 vinyl turntable.  The DZ1200 sports the same direct drive motor as the 1200s but has an 8 inch platter instead of the 12 inch vinyl heads are used to.  Still the DZ1200 will feel very familiar to those with MK2s or M3Ds.  It even has a familiar strobe light on the side of the platter and sits on similar “feet”.  The mostly metal construction of the unit is also reflective of Technics vinyl turntables.  Track info is easily readable on the SL-DZ1200’s LCD display which sits in the center of the platter.  The Technics SL-DZ1200 turntable also has a slot for a memory card which can store everything from cue points to actual songs and albums.  Able to play MP3s, Technics boasts an advantage over some of the Pioneer CD Turntables.  The Technics sampling ability is impressive, even enabling you to record scratching and play it back at the touch of a button.  A unique feature of the SL-DZ1200 is its ability to set a cue point to a position on the platter, which is great for scratch transitions.  Overall, the Technics SL-DZ1200 CD-MP3 Turntable comes highly recommended by the DJBooth.net staff. - DJ Booth Staff

This is by far the best DJ cd player I have ever seen or played with.  I was just in the store fooling around.  I couldn’t get enough of fooling with it.  It felt just like my old Technics 1200 turntable!  I really would have to study the manual!  It was able to scratch just like a turntable without the usual delay of any other cd player that scratches.  It was smooth to use and quiet.  It has way too many features to name.  But I really liked the loop feature, the way it was designed to work.  It worked with real ease.  It had one small quirp I found.  When turning it on or loading another CD to be used to mix with, it took about 10 seconds to read a cd.  Even with that small quirp, it is the best DJ cd player ever made.  I now own the Numark cdn88 and would rather have a pair of the technics cd players to work with.  If I could get a pair of those I would take my Numark dual cd player and take a hammer and totally destroy it.  Don’t get me wrong, the cdn88 is a really nice peice but it can’t compare to the technics.  Simply the best and a steal at $1,200.00.  It doesn’t get any better than this!!!  THANK YOU TECHNICS!!!!! - DJ Adrian Bacon

Having owned a Technics Sldz1200 for two months alongside my 2x1210’S I have always loved using although it took a while to learn.
I bought this cd turntable for a good reason, hoping it would replace the pioneer cdj 1000’s as an industry standard in bars and clubs and this hasnt happened which is annoying as the pioneers are no fun to use during a live set and makes the dj look really boring and too “digital” Come on Technics sort it out these decks are easily the best but I keep seeing terrible press about them? WHY ???
P.S. I had the pioneer cdj1000 it was too easy but no fun! - DJ Richie Barthez

For those of you out there reading this, DO NOT buy this deck! Save your $’s.
I too have the latest update on my Tech DZ (version 2.3), but the pitch lock problem is STILL there. I read about all the problems this deck had before I bought them. I was told not to worry about it, and that the deck could be upgraded and all would be fine. Well, I was later informed (after I bought them)that the pitch lock problem during scratching could NOT be fixed due to the hardware limitations of the deck (as per an email directly from Technics). Also, that Technics has no intensions of modifying/fixing the hardware part of the deck so they could fix this problem. I am very upset that I bought these decks now. I should of listened to my friends and went with the new Denon 3500’s. At least Denon’s free upgrades actually work.
Don’t waste your hard earned cash on this deck. - DJ Splatter
