Stanton Final Scratch Staff Review

Stanton's Final Scratch is a kit which allows MP3s stored on a computer to be manipulated on your turntable using special records. It sounds like science fiction but the way it works is simple. The special records carry a time code instead of a song. A converter translates the time code into a digital signal which is then sent to your laptop which is running the Final Scratch program (included). The Stanton Final Scratch program then sends the part of the MP3 that is loaded into your mixer. All this means that whatever you do to the record will be done to the MP3 file! No need to lug around a record case to all your gigs, with Final Scratch all you need is a laptop with all your songs stored on it. Scratch DJs will appreciate that any sample that can be found in MP3 format can now be manipulated as if it was on vinyl. The Final Scratch kit includes software, 3 records, converter, and all the wires necessary to get it all connected. All you need to provide is 2 turntables, a mixer and a laptop.

Special Note to Final Scratch Users: Laptop hard drives are sensitive to magnetic impulses found in speakers. Many DJs have informed us that when playing near large club speakers their hard drives have crashed. If you are using the Stanton Final Scratch at a club, please make sure your laptop is not near any large speakers.

Rating: 7/10

I purchased one of these last summer. I find that it is one of the greatest things ever invented! I transferred all of my old rap songs from cassette to mp3, and I instantly have access to to a collection of singles that would cost a fortune to collect on vinyl *that's only if you can find it on vinyl*. Did I mention that you only have to have one copy of a song! You can play the same mp3 in both decks at the same time! The sound quality of your records will never degenerate, because sound files cannot become crackled. You can easily organize your collection. You will only have to carry a computer. No more Heavy Cases!!! All you need is a computer with a usb connection. For poor people like myself, I built a micro atx computer. I am buying a LCD Monitor. You don't need to have a laptop. The only thing negative I find about this unit is the records. You must have spare records because they wear out easier because you are constantly using the same record. The records are built to last, I find the vinyl is much better and heavier than on a standard record. I am still an amateur DJ, I find that these heavier records for some reason are a little harder to sync up than your standard records. What I mean is that I can't tweak it out perfectly like you can with lighter records BUY A FINAL SCRATCH !!! IT'S THE GREATEST !!! IT'S A GOOD INVESTMENT !!! SAVE MONEY BY BUYING MP3'S FOR $1.00 VS A 12" SINGLE FOR $5-$10 - DJ Brady
