Setup & First Impressions

The HD6 MIX has an over-the-ear design and also have 150 ohm impedance which is optimal for use with most mixing and production equipment. The HD6 has a mostly plastic construction, but they seem durable enough to stand up to normal studio use. The HD6 MIX also comes bundled with two different cables, two different earpads and a hard case to protect your investment. The headband has a rubber feel to it inside and out and is able to bend and flex in crazy ways without any sign of fatigue.

Conclusion / Recommended For

In conclusion, the Sennheiser HD6 MIX Professional studio grade headphones are a great monitoring solution for the working production environment. The HD6 headphones are very lightweight and comfortable which makes them ideal for the extended studio sessions that can last for hours on end. The HD6's have great sound quality that gives the user an accurate reproduction of the source material. The Highs and Lows are flat and correct, while the bass is noticeable and legible but not pronounced in any way. The HD6’s also come bundled with two different earpads, two professional cables, and a seriously protective hard case to hold it all.

The only gripes that I could find with the HD6’s was that they have a mostly plastic construction (which isn't as solid as the HD8 DJ counterpart which is built with lots of metal in the design) and they cannot fold or swivel for easy storage and transport. The plastic design in the headphones still feels solid, but I know that the metal HD8's will last longer than the plastic HD6's at the end of the day. Most producers don't really need one ear monitoring so the fold/swivel need is subjective, but worthy of a note. If these gripes aren’t deal-breakers and you’re in the market for a new set of cans for the studio with accurate sound reproduction, then the Sennheiser HD6 MIX headphones are worth a look...
