Setup & First Impressions
The DJ-Tech Reloaded Digital DJ Controller is an average-grade controller that comes bundled with everything you need to DJ straight out of the box. It includes a version of Virtual DJ LE that allows users to mix using four decks on the Reloaded. If you purchase the Pro version of Virtual DJ, then it unlocks the additional two decks bringing the total to six. The Built in Soundcard is attached to the two RCA inputs that can work with timecode control of many popular DJ Software on the market today (except for Traktor and Serato). There are also two RCA Master Outputs that allow users to connect their setup to two different sets of speakers (Booth & Master). The unit is nice and compact and each deck contains three Cue points and a loop. The unit also has four total sample banks that have their own volume control.
On the downside, the DJ Tech Reloop USB DJ controller is made up of almost all plastic. It really looks and feels like a toy and not a professional DJ piece. The Jog wheels and faders are not accurate enough for intermediate scratching and they also feel very plastic-like. There is a separate volume control knob for the additional RCA output on the back, but it’s actually a small knob located on the front of the unit. It would have been nice to have a “booth” volume control knob for better control. My final gripe with the unit is the price. The Reloaded comes to us at $400 retail and it just seems that the price is somewhat steep when compared to other controllers out there on the market that can match or better the performance. The 4-in/4-out Soundcard is a solid feature, but I’m not sure if it’s worth that much to the end user.
Conclusion / Recommended For
In conclusion, the DJ Tech Reloaded DJ Controller is a decent option if you must have four (or six) decks of control and you want a compact and lightweight unit to travel with or for those who need a DJ Controller that will also work with their timecode decks. We also recommend the DJ Tech Reloaded to beginners since it comes with everything you need to start mixing out of the box. We do not recommend this unit for hip-hop DJ’s or scratch style DJ’s but it would be great for people who just want to pull off a few mixes with some baby scratches thrown in here or there.
