Behringer Eurolive B212XL Speaker Review
Overview: Last year we brought you a full HD-Video review on the Behringer B212A powered 12-inch speakers. They were a great set of speakers, so we decided to go ahead and review the same speaker, but without the built in amplifier. Some DJ's (myself included) like to have separate amplifiers and speakers, so Behringer agreed to send me a set of B212XL two-way passive 12-inch speakers along with a Europower EPQ2000 amplifier for a full HD-Video review. Check out the speaker review inside.

Behringer B212XL 12” Two-Way Passive Speaker Review Video & Summary:
The Behringer EUROLIVE speaker lineup is a fairly new range offered to the masses by the familiar Pro-Audio and DJ company that promises to deliver on price and in performance. The lineup of EUROLIVE speakers is very expansive and covers passive (non-amplified) and active (amplified) speaker systems in different wood or Molded ABS cabinet configurations. There are different shapes and sizes to choose from ensuring there is something here for everyone. Behringer is known for making equipment for the budget-minded user but their latest equipment has also exhibited a higher level of quality which also carries over to the EUROLIVE speaker lineup. For the purposes of this review, we will take a closer look at the new Behringer B121XL 12-inch passive two-way speaker system which is also available in a 10-inch and 15-inch versions. Please check out our full Video Review of the new Behringer B1500D-PRO 15-inch powered subwoofer which is a perfect match for these 12-inch 2-way speakers found in this review. We also reviewed these speakers in conjunction with the new Behringer Europower EPQ2000 watt amplifier for our power.
The Behringer B212XL 12-inch Passive two-Way Speaker system that is capable of handling 200 watts of continuous power and a peak of 800 watts to ensure you don’t blow anything. The B212XL has a new and improved 12-inch long-excursion driver and the 1.75-inch titanium-diaphragm compression driver for the crispy highs. The sound remained smooth and steady for our two-hour stress test for the speaker set. The testing procedure was to operate the two-way speaker system at 50% power or more with all types of different music being played through them. The speaker system reproduces excellent high range and mid range frequency coverage with nice crispy highs and clear/legible mids. These are perfect for close DJ monitoring situations and for small/intimate venues for mobile DJ’s. The low frequency handling of the B212XL was somewhat of a mixed bag. The Lows were OK at best, but when levels went beyond the 65% range, there was more distortion than I would have liked. There really is no 12-inch speaker that will deliver super-vibrant bass, but that’s the reason we try to pair them with subwoofers. Overall, the bass handling would be adequate enough for most small-sized gigs and definitely enough for a studio and home type of setup. The Behringer B212XL was an excellent companion for the new Beringer B1500D-PRO subwoofer that we reviewed last year. This is the best combination for full bass reproduction. Throughout our testing, we never hit the LIMIT of the system and the performace was right on par with others in the same price range and this setup could compete with others in the next price-tier above their own. I was able to find these speakers for as low as $145 each shipped to my front door! That’s a hard price to beat for a set of speakers that produce this quality of sound.
The Behringer B212XL passive two-way 12-inch speaker system also has a few unique features around the back of the unit. There is a ¼-inch input and a separate ¼-inch input for passing the signal along to another speaker. There is also a set of two speakon connections for the same purpose. The cabinet itself is made of a heavy-duty Molded ABS material with great ergonomics and construction that was built to last. The speaker has a trapezoid shape that can be employed when laying them down on their side for stage performances. There is also a 35mm pole mount on the bottom and recessed handles on both sides for easy transport. The cabinet size of these 12-inch speakers is a lot smaller than most others on the market which makes them easier to move around and easier to fit into tight spaces. There is also a front grill for protection and they can be stacked on top of one another if necessary. The feet on the bottom will fit perfectly into the molds found on the top.
The only real gripe that I could find with the Behringer B212XL is that the bass handling. The Bass was adequate enough for monitoring and lower level situations, but those who want real deep bass should go with the 15-inch models that have a larger cabinet area to allow the bass to resonate a bit more. The Behringer B1500D-PRO (or the 18-inch model) powered subwoofer would also make a PERFECT companion for these two-way speakers and provide a full spectrum of sound for those bigger performance venues. In the sound department overall, these speakers were great, but they weren’t on-par with the likes of the some of the speakers that cost triple the amount. They work especially well for the price.
In conclusion, the Behringer B212XL is a good all-around two-way 12-inch Passive Speaker system that is versatile and very ergonomic. This 200 watt system delivers some decent power with great high and mid frequency response. The Behringer B212XL speakers have more than enough power for almost any small sized club, bar, or Mobile DJ application and the price is one of the lowest I’ve ever seen for the level of performance. DJbooth.net recommends the Behringer EUROLIVE B212XL to beginner/intermediate DJ’s or performers who need a nice and compact powered-speaker solution to suit most monitoring needs.

Features
Behringer B212XL Passive 12-inch Two-Way Speaker
Even Better Than Before
These loudspeakers take everything musicians love about the original B212 loudspeakers and upgrade them with the same bass and treble/mid transducers found in our wildly popular B212A active version for even better sound and power handling. And with integrated overload protection circuitry, they arrive ready to push it to the limit without putting their high or low frequency drivers in danger.
Triumphant Transducers
Every stitch of these loudspeakers is built to deliver, but the fact is that their transducers (woofers and tweeters) are the only part you actually hear. While some manufacturers are okay with putting off-the-shelf transducers in their boxes, we custom-design and build ours from scratch. Not only do we wind our own voice coils, we grow the trees that are processed into the paper pulp that becomes the cones. We even machine the frames and backplates. BEHRINGER's quality is truly under control.
Big Sound, Lightweight, Low Price
Big here, small there, lots of this, light on that—everyone's got their preferences, but the EUROLIVE B212XL has proportions we can all agree upon. These loudspeakers pack a clean, punchy wallop (and can handle up to 800 Watts), they are easy to lift by their recessed handles (24 lbs) and are available at insanely low prices. Who wouldn't want to hook up with one of these beauties?
Get on the Stick…or Get on Down
The B212XL is perfect either as part of a PA system or as an onstage monitor. If the situation calls for a PA, mount the speakers on stands via the 35mm pole socket. From there, send a line from the MAIN OUT of a mixer (such as a XENYX 1202FX) to a power amplifier (like the EUROPOWER EP1500). Finally, attach a B212XL to each of the amp's outputs. These loudspeakers have inputs for both professional speaker cable and ¼" cable. Because they have two parallel inputs, you can connect up to two of them to any channel on a power amp.
But these loudspeakers don't have to be confined to an upright position. Just lay them on their sides for use as a floor monitor. You'll find that they tilt to the ideal angle for onstage monitor wedge applications.
Choose White, Black, on or Off the Wall…
You asked for it, and now we're proud to offer these amazing loudspeakers in black or white. We now also make swiveling wall-mount brackets for the B212XL. That means they're ready to fit even more comfortably into a venue's color scheme and layout. No matter what your sound or aesthetic needs may be, we make one that's just right for you!
