A little over two years ago, Vestax released the Pad One which is a completely MIDI Mapable and compact controller which works nicely for both DJ and production style needs.  The Vestax Pad One sports an all aluminum chassis, 12 Velocity Sensitive Performance Pads, an X-Y touch-pad, and the ability to make MIDI edits on the fly without touching the computer.  Check out our quick mini-video review and summary to see if the Pad One can fit into your own personal setup.

Pioneer XDJ-R1 Wireless DJ System Review

The Pioneer XDJ-R1 is a new all-in-one DJ system that can be used in many different ways and using many different combinations of media for music playback.  The Pioneer XDJ-R1 can function as a two-deck DJ controller that can work with almost any DJ software of your choice (comes bundled with Virtual DJ LE).  The XDJ-R1 can also function as a true standalone two channel DJ mixer, it can playback audio files directly from on-board USB flash/hard drives, and it can even be used in conjunction with Rekordbox and Remotebox in order to wirelessly control most of the DJ functions using compatible iOS & Android Wi-Fi enabled devices that are running the Rekordbox Pioneer DJ library software.  The XDJ-R1 goes even a step further than the XDJ-AERO we reviewed late last year by adding dual CD slots in the front of the XDJ-R1 to allow users to playback music from CD’s.  All of these functions can be performed on each deck individually meaning the DJ has the choice of using the XDJ-R1 in hybrid mode to mix between different tracks in various different playback modes.

Reloop Keypad Compact DAW Workstation Review

The Reloop brand makes some great DJ equipment that we always review here in the DJbooth.net Lab with good results.  They’ve decided to throw their hats into the production realm with the release of the new Reloop Keypad and Keyfadr controllers which are compact, USB-powered, and affordable DAW Workstations that both come bundled with Ableton Live Lite 9 to allow users to start creating music right out of the box.  The Keypad controller (pictured above) has the same 25 mini piano keys as the Keyfadr, but it also adds the 16 Velocity Sensitive (and backlit) pads that producers have grown to love.

Maschine Studio Music Production MIDI Controller Review

Native Instruments has launched the new Maschine Studio MIDI-controller production system along with the new version 2.0 of its software and we’ve got our hands on both for a full written and video review.  The new Native Instruments Maschine Studio hardware is bigger than both the Maschine and Maschine Mikro and provides best-in-class control with two new hi-res color displays, a new edit section with a large jog wheel, and the same responsive 16-multi-color backlit velocity-sensitive drum pads.  The Maschine 2.0 software provides lots of improvements to the user interface and works better and faster on all three Maschine Production devices.  Check out the full HD-Video and written reviews below to see if this powerful production controller is for you.

Numark Mixtrack Edge Review

The Numark Mixtrack Edge has recently been released as the smallest, lightest, and sleekest Digital DJ controller in the Numark Mixtrack range.  This new DJ controller is extremely thin at only 14mm thick and is only about the size of a tablet device.  The Mixtrack Edge comes bundled with a two-deck version of Virtual DJ LE making it a really compact package with most of the on-board features that Digital DJ’s need.
