New DJ Equipment Reviews
The NI Traktor Kontrol X1 MK2 is a compact and modular Digital DJ controller that was built specifically for the full Traktor Pro 2 software that allows DJ’s to control file navigation, effects, loops, hotcues, Flux Mode, and other playback properties. The Traktor Kontrol X1 MK2 is the second iteration of the original X1 with some minor layout changes and the addition of a touch strip and loop counter readout that allows DJ’s to take even more control of their mixing than ever before. Watch our full review video for the complete rundown.
Some time ago, we reviewed the Hercules RMX-2 and the 4-MX DJ controllers which were both made of metal and had lots of professional features for all levels of DJ's. This week, we received the newest Hercules DJ controller called the Control Air+ (Plus) which is an update to the first Control Air which was the first DJ controller to integrate an IR sensor to control effect parameters. The Control Air+ has an updated layout, bigger jog wheels, and more features than the original. Check out the review to see how it works in the booth.
Phiaton is a relatively new audio company that produces some good quality headphones for all types of users. The Phiaton Bridge MS 500 headphones have an over-the-ear design and premium construction materials throughout including a solid aluminum body and genuine leather earcups and headband for added comfort and durability. We've completed this review to see just how they hold up in the DJ booth.
The Beats by Dr. Dre headphone range includes all sorts of models ranging from over-the-ear active noise cancelling, to inner ear-buds that were created in conjunction with B-ball star Lebron James. The Beats headphone range as a whole has been given a bad rap amongst many DJ inner-circles, but here at DJbooth.net, we like to give all DJ gear a fair shake, no matter what name brand they come from. We’ve never reviewed any Beats headphones before, so we thought that the new DJ-inspired Mixr headphones would be the perfect place to start.
The Numark Orbit DJ controller was announced earlier this year at NAMM 2013 and we've finally got one in the DJbooth.net Lab for a full out review. The Numark Orbit is very small and compact with rubberized performance-style multi-color-backlit pads on each side to control different DJ software functions, a jog wheel in the center, and accelerometers inside for motion sensor style control. DJ's can perform with the Orbit via USB port (connected to a computer which also charges the unit) or wirelessly on the dancefloor with the crowd.
A few months ago, we took a look at the Rane Sixty-One mixer which was a good follow-up to the TTM series mixers but still lacked some of the on-board MIDI controls and features that DJ’s need to control their Digital performance. So we’ve stepped it up to the next level with this review of the new Rane Sixty-Two-Z mixer review that promises to deliver on the same quality front, but also providing users with even more digital and analog flexibility than ever before.
We've had the Traktor Kontrol Z1 mixing console interface in the DJbooth.net Lab for to test it out with the Traktor DJ App and the Traktor Pro and LE software. Check out the results in the full HD-Video and written review to see if this is the option for you. (The Traktor Kontrol Z1 is available now for $199 and comes bundled with Traktor LE for computer connectivity. The Traktor DJ App is now FREE from the App Store.)
The DJ Pro headphones are the top-of-the-line cans from SMS Audio with their over-the-ear design, 40mm drivers, fold-able hinges, and comfortable leather with memory foam earpads. Even though they are advertised and designed for DJ's, we'll take a deeper dive in our video and written reviews to let you know how they truly hold up under pressure.
