[Video] Pioneer CDJ-2000NEXUS Announced
We all knew it was coming very soon and today Pioneer Pro DJ introduced its new flagship CDJ player, the CDJ-2000nexus, with lots of new features and technologies including Wi-Fi connectivity, compatibility with Pioneer’s new rekordbox App for iOS devices, and new functions such as Beat Sync, Wave Zoom and Slip. Also upgraded this time around is the selection screen interface for better music searches and waveform display, increased visibility of the needle search pad, and improved master tempo sound quality.
The new CDJ-2000NEXUS has lots of new and cool features that are sure to make some current CDJ users jump on board with this new upgrade. The CDJ-2000NEXUS works with the new Rekordbox software meaning that DJ's can now connect to the unit via wireless WIFI to use smartphones, iPhones, and tablets to prepare music, cue points, loops and other functions as well as sending tracks directly to the unit for playback. Unlike the newly announced Pioneer XDJ-AERO; with the CDJ-2000NEXUS, the entire track actually gets loaded into the unit so there is no fear of losing wireless signal in the middle of playback. There is still a USB thumb/Hard drive slot, SD memory card slot, and a CD slot to satisfy all of your playback needs.
The CDJ-2000NEXUS has a new LCD 6.1" display which now has even better resolution for very detailed waveforms that can now be zoomed for different levels of magnification to follow along and adjust beatgrids and BPM on the fly. Users can Link up to (4) CDJ-2000NEXUS decks together at a time via the Link Port which allows them all to share music from a single source. One of the biggest upgrades to grace the CDJ-2000NEXUS is the inclusion of Beat Sync. Music currently playing on one device can now be perfectly matched with the other devices by simply pushing the new Sync button on each deck. Slip mode (which was included on the CDJ-900 but not the CDJ-2000) is now on the CDJ-2000NEXUS. The slip function, when activated, allows DJ's to manipulate a track by scratching or changing the parameters, but when the button is released, the track will continue to play at the point it should have been if it wasn't touched at all. The Quantize button has also been added to let Cue Points and loops be set perfectly on-beat with the other tracks that are currently playing. This makes for perfect on-beat transitions every time.
Of course the Pioneer CDJ-2000NEXUS will have the ability to control DJ Software like Traktor and Serato via MIDI and/or HID control. So if you still want to use a computer with the CDJ-2000NEXUS, you still can, but with all this new goodness that the device can do with the supplied Rekordbox software and app...would you really want to? In the three videos that Pioneer has put out with this press release, there is no mention or shot of a Laptop or computer anywhere in the frame as you can see that all the communication and visual feedback you need is right there on the unit's screen or in a smartphone or tablet running the Rekordbox App.
The price of each CDJ-2000NEXUS is going to be steep to say the least, but we were all expecting this... The price in the US will be a hefty $2400 each and most users will need at least two of them to take advantage of the new features within. We'll be sure to get one (or two) in the lab for a full out HD-Video review as soon as they are released sometime this month.
