DJ TeeOh - “DJ Lifestyle” Blog #1

" It's been a minute but I'm still alive and kicking. The move from Japan to Atlanta was a tough one but I've got things rolling and it is all looking great. Life has been pretty hectic with work, producing, video editing, and wrapping up my Masters in Music production at Berklee Music College. Rest assured that I'm still active and striving to bring music to you.

As Guitar Center's official DJ consultant (Marietta, GA) I'm always looking to help expand the DJ scene. Years ago Guitar Center hosted DJ battles known as "Spinoff". I think it is time to bring that back so I have started discussions with my home store. I have also spoken with various companies, who have more than helped further the music world, and they are eager to help. No confirmations in this early stage yet but things are looking promising. It is my goal to initiate this in Atlanta, GA then later expand it to the other 200+ Guitar Center locations nationwide. I'm sure some of you out there will appreciate bringing back a bit of the old school and having some fun.

(If anyone has ideas and think I may be able to help please feel free to contact me.)

On another note…..DMC 2013!! Another year, another battle, another chance. It is almost upon us once again. Turntablists have been practicing for years, spectators are buying tickets, and bets are being taken (just kidding about the bets, kind of). Who will come out swingin and who will go down in flames?! The biggest question is….who will SHOW up!! Right now no official entries have been posted since registration is still open so, if you got what it takes, step up step-step-up. Keep in mind the online DMC battles and venue battles will launch separately. Even if you can't make it to a venue battle you can always make a video routine for the online portion. NO EXCUSES THIS YEAR!

These days the DJ world is growing ever so much. From trance to dubstep to underground hip hop, we are a growing nation of DJs. Please get out, support your local DJs, and their events. If you are like me and get tired of hearing the same songs on the radio station and at the bar/club, then help change that buy supporting the DJs you know and love. Buy those $10 CDs. Buy those t-shirts and tickets to the show. I say this because that money you spend goes into making that DJ better, paying for the really expensive equipment we buy, and the music collection (Remember that when you ask for a song and the DJ says he/she doesn't have it.) You may think of it as $10 for a CD but that is an investment. If you support your local DJs then he/she will improve. As a result, you get better music, better events, better clubs, etc.

In the end, it's all about the experience. The love, the passion…..the music."
