2013 BOOM DJ Battle

New for 2013

This year returns the largest 21 and under DJ Competition in the country to Toyota park on June 15th 2013 at the B96 Pepsi Summer Bash. This is not just a DJ battle, but an amazing Summertime festival style experience with a fun environment, large stage, special effects, concert sound and lighting. There will be tons of giveaways and amazing special guests DJs including the 2013 Red Bull Thre3Style U.S. Champion, DJ Trentino and DJ Flipside & Marquee from the Jump Smokers and more. The best part is you can come party for FREE! For 2013 BOOM is switching it up and making the battle even more fun and exciting.  BOOM is opening the doors to DJ creativity with our open hardware format while getting the judges and crowd involved with the “Boom or Buzz” concept to crown this year’s champions.

“Boom or Buzz”

- Here is the twist and where it really gets exciting! Each DJ has 2 minutes of their set as a “safe zone”. This means they can use this time to impress the judges and crowd. After the inital 2-minute safe period in their set is over each judge will have the ability to “Buzz” out each contestant up until the allotted time.  If all three judges buzz you out before your time is up, your set ends. If only 1 semi-finalist makes it to the end without being buzzed out, the 2nd finalist will be based on the length of the set before being buzzed out.

Judging

Judge 1 – Stage Performance
Are you owning the stage? This judge is looking for a performance from you. Whether its ‘fist pumping’ or dancing in front of the crowd, you need to be moving or you will be buzzed out!

Judge 2 – Programming / Crowd Reaction
Do you have a solid intro? Are you building your set up and keeping the crowd amped? Are you reading the crowd and playing the right songs? If the crowd isnt feeling you, then this judge certainly won’t!

Judge 3 – Technical Ability
How well do you own your craft? Scratching, Mixing, Beat Juggling or drumming. Do you own this remix? If you are just playing the song, expect to hear a buzz!

SemiFinals

14 – 17 Division
3 Semi-Finalists

-Each semi-finalist will have 3 minutes to show off their skills.
-The first 2 minutes of your set will be a “safety period” where no judge can buzz you out.
-After the initial 2 minutes the judges can buzz you.
-Three buzzes and your set is over.
-Each judge will score you from 1-10
-Top two highest scores will battle in the final round.
-If only 1 semi-finalist makes it to the end without being buzzed out, the 2nd finalist will be based on the length of the set before being buzzed out.

18 – 21 Division
5 Semi-Finalists

-Each semi-finalist will have 5 minutes to show off their skills.
-The first 2 minutes of your set will be a “safety period” where no judge can buzz you out.
-After the initial 2 minutes the judges can buzz you out.
-Three buzzes and your set is over.
-Each judge that doesn’t buzz you will give you a score from 1-10
