Vestax, one of my favorite DJ equipment brands, has filed for Bankruptcy late last year. I did not report on this announcement because I knew that wasn’t the end of the story. Just before the New Year, Mixware.net (the US distributor for Vestax) released a statement that supports the claim that Vestax is still alive and we’ll likely see some new products and developments shortly.
The One DJ software 1.6 update has now been released and with it comes an extraordinary performance by Famous DJ Rasp from the UK. Rasp has been known to put it down on the turntables in turntablist competitions, but today he exercises his controllerist side on the brand new One DJ software 1.6 and the Vestax VCI-400. Check out the video of Rasp showcasing The One DJ software timeline & live mode together in an innovative DJ Routine after the jump.
A little over two years ago, Vestax released the Pad One which is a completely MIDI Mapable and compact controller which works nicely for both DJ and production style needs. The Vestax Pad One sports an all aluminum chassis, 12 Velocity Sensitive Performance Pads, an X-Y touch-pad, and the ability to make MIDI edits on the fly without touching the computer. Check out our quick mini-video review and summary to see if the Pad One can fit into your own personal setup.
Vestax has just announced the arrival of their new high-quality replaceable headphone cables that work well with their HMX-05 headphones or any other compatible DJ headphones called the HFC-1 cable. These cables are available in white, purple, green, or red and feature a matching flat cable that will never tangle. The HFC-1 will be available in October 2013 for only $10.
We reviewed the Vestax HMX-01 headphones in black and red a few months ago, and now Vestax has released the white and red edition to compliment the White and Red mixers and controllers in their lineup. The Vestax VCI-400DJ Serato DJ edition also dawns the white paint-job while the new Vestax VCI-380 is also available in white. Now these vestax controllers have a nice set of HMX-01 white headphones to match.
Our good friends over at American Music and Sound were once again showing off their goodies at the 2013 DJ Expo with their Lineup of Reloop gear, Vestax controllers and Allen & Heath Mixers. We were also able to catch DJ Angelo from the UK ripping it up on the new US-Bound Reloop RP-6000mk6 Super OEM turntables and RMX-80 mixer that will be available state-side immediately! The Vestax Typoon and professional VCI-380 and VCI-400 controllers were in the booth along with the Allen & Heath Mixer range.
The Vestax VCI-380 is a great Serato DJ controller with a rock solid build quality, standalone mixer mode, and a nice intuitive multipurpose pad section. We reviewed the VCI-380 last year here at the DJbooth.net lab and it was a clear winner from the start. Vestax has now released a new White edition VCI-380 and a Red Edition VCI-380 in limited quantities, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled if you’re looking for a new VCI-380 as you may be lucky enough to find it in one of these rare colors.
Just last week, Vestax announced that the new Serato DJ Software now works with their Typhoon Digital DJ Controller. Vestax Typhoon users can download a free trial for 14 days, or upgrade for $129. Serato DJ brings the new features of the full software such as Instant Doubles and iZotope FX to Typhoon users.
The Vestax VCI-400 Digital DJ controller is extremely versatile as it can work with both the full Serato DJ software and Traktor Pro 2 with great results. I’ve decided to keep the VCI-400 for my personal controller of choice and since then we’ve upgraded the crossfader (on our DIY Video) and now we’re ready to customize the looks. With the help of our friends over at Styleflip.com we were able to perfectly match the black/white pinstripe design on my DVS setup and replicate it on the VCI-400.
The Vestax VCI-380 has been out on the market for a little over a year now, but its still one of my favorite controllers to use with Serato. During our HD-Video review, we loved the build quality, tight jog wheels, and excellent fader feel along with the a set of input and output options that are available to the users. The VCI-380 now gets a free software upgrade from Serato Itch to the new and improved Serato DJ and Martin from the Serato team gives us a quick demo video of the new look and features. Check out the performance video and my Vestax VCI-380 review after the jump.
