Lil Wayne - “Tha Carter III”
Lil Wayne's long awaited opus wasn't the year's best musical work, but it was by far the most important. More than any other rapper, Weezy F. Baby owned 2008, and Tha Carter III was the album that sealed the deal. Once Tha Carter III finally hit store shelves we were finally able to put aside the hype and see Wayne for what he truly is: a psychotically creative rapper who's rewriting the rules of the hip-hop game.

I was really disappointed by tha Carter III. Theatre of the mind, Paper Trail and LAX were much better to be honest.

@ DJChecka - Wayne's album was purchased (in hard copy) by nearly 3 million people in the U.S. alone. How is his selection of ALBUM OF THE YEAR whack? LAX is barely certified GOLD and doesn't have another track on the album that is single-worthy. Ask Interscope, they agree. Follow @DJBooth |

Basing it on sales? How is that not wack? Are you trying to say that Because C3 sold three million albums in its first year it's a better album than Paid in Full or Illmatic, both of which sold a fraction of that? Lax and Nas are far better albums from 2008. The one thing C3 and Paper trail have that the above two don't? 13 year old girls buying them. Nuff said.
