The DJ Booth… We never miss a beat…

Best New Artist (Signed) of 2008

The-Dream

Reader's Pick:
The-Dream
Though his debut album, Love/Hate, was actually released in December of 2007, its impact wasn’t felt until the calendar turned to 2008. Thanks to three Top 30 Billboard singles (“Shawty is A Ten,” “Falsetto,” and “I Luv Your Girl”) and writing credits for hit records from Beyoncé (“Single Ladies”), Jamie Foxx (“Just Like Me”) and Mariah Carey (“Touch My Body”), The-Dream is undoubtedly a radio-killa.

Runner Up:
Jazmine Sullivan

DJ Booth Staff Pick:

I would have given it to Janelle Monae if she had released more than just one 8-track EP.

Mayday! Ha, guess Rock's still got a while to go. They'll make it, you can count on it!

Love/Hate was pretty good, but after a while I got tired of The-Dream, and Rocking That Thang was horrible! This should have been Jazmine Sullivan.

I saw the results for this one and The Dream had like 90% of the vote!

The-Dream was easily the best new artist in 2008, I totally agree with this

Go pick up a copy of Jazmine Sullivan's debut album, FEARLESS. If you do not like it, you clearly do not know R&B music from your left foot. Seriously. Stop reading. Go.

I went with the dream, i thought he made some hits of his own, and contributed to others hits.

Even though The-Dream is hella mainstream he makes nothing but hits! Agree

The-Dream definitely has credit for many hits this past year, so I think that addition of songwriting and producing helped influence this decision. I really liked Janelle Monae, the problem with her is what Macli said, she only dropped an 8 track EP. Jazmine Sullivan I haven't listened to enough to agree or disagree, but I can understand Dream winning.
