Best DJ of 2009

Reader's Pick

DJ Drama Artwork

DJ Drama

Though 2009 found DJ Drama living up to his name, that didn't stop the Mixtape King from having one of his biggest years yet. In addition to assembling a cast of Southern superstars and hungry up-and-comers for Gangsta Grillz: The Album (Vol. 2), the Aphilliates Music Group co-owner dropped street albums with Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, Game and many more.

DJ Don Cannon Artwork

DJ Don Cannon

Not only does Don Cannon have the coolest producer tag in the game ("Cannon...cannon...cannon"), Don was everywhere you looked this year, lending his production talents to major projects like 50's Before I Self Destruct while shepherding younger acts like The Cool Kids into the spotlight with dope mixtapes - and we haven't even gotten into his long list of radio, tv and performance credits yet. Much like our very own DJ Z, Don Cannon indeed did it real big in 2009.

Definitely, DJ DRAMA did his thing for 2009. I thought Green lantern, Whoo Kid and Big Mike also had good years.

Of course Drama got it. Suprised last year's winner Khaled didn't get nominated...but he likely will be next year.

(if both Khaled & Drama are ever on the same ballot, then there will be real disparity)

Green Lantern didn't do as much as the previous year to win again, so I would say Don Cannon too.

DJ Drama was the easy pick, though im not a big fan of the mixtape seen (normally). 'We Must Be Heard' was a dope track by the way.

Not only does he stocked our playlists with a diverse list of mixtapes, ranging from Joell to Emilio Rojas, his supply of beats were both dope and consistent throughout 2009. I voted for NYC Hell’s Kitchen Italian bred James D’Agostino’s more popular spin avatar DJ Green Lantern.

I got to witness his dope live-set on his maiden India tour as part of the VH1 India Hip-Hop hustle. Had a fcukin blast!
