The debut album from Shareefa, Point of No Return, is out in stores now. The point of no return in her life however occurred when she was seventeen years old. After having to pick up her life and move with her mother and two siblings to North Carolina, Shareefa was both unhappy and disobedient. DJBooth Album Review
Instead of lumping together an album full of club-ready dance cuts, Shareefa decided to take stage front and center and share with the world her life. Album producers Chucky Thompson, Rodney Jerkins, and Salaam Remi combine pure musical mastery with the hard ache, strain, seduction, pain and love that Shareefa has felt at one time or another. To help showcase her trials and tribulations, Shareefa and her Def Jam A&Rs also wisely decided to dumb down the number of featured guests (Only DTP label mates Ludacris and Bobby Valentino make the album).
Point Of No Return is an album undeniably relatable to young women. As a man, even I feel like Shareefa has taught me a thing or two about personal struggles, self confidence and fake friends. Despite the serious nature of some of her material, Shareefa always makes sure to add levity to her music, she sings: "Yes I'm a hot chick, somebody you can ride wit / Got hips, all the boys want me to drop it." As her boss, Ludacris made a wise decision to push the album hard. Looks like next it will be time to crown an employee of the month.
