You either love G-Unit, or you hate them. There’s never been a group as controversial as the infamous G-G-G-G-G-G-G-Unit! (Was that the right amount of “G”s?). Brother against brother, mother against son, seemingly everyone’s picked a side. This not-so-civil war is largely the result of 50’s constant beef with anyone who breathes. But whatever the cause, the once impenetrable G-Unit has fallen on tough times, relatively speaking. First a dude wearing window-blind shades crushes their fearless leader’s album, then Young Buck gets a dishonorable discharge from the G-Army. It ain’t 2003 no more.
Like a true general, 50 has learned from his defeat at the hands of Commander West, realizing he needed to drop the Amusement Park rides and return to what made the Unit famous in the first place; shooting people. (Actually getting shot made him famous in the first place, but let’s not split hairs). With that in mind, Curtis, Lloyd Banks, and the now un-incarcerated Tony Yayo are back with a vengeance on their sophomore release Terminate On Sight.
Since the world is so divided for and against Mr. Jackson and the boys, I’ve decided to roll out, for the first time in album review history, a Choose Your Own Review! That’s right, it’s two reviews in one! Just scroll down, choose the review you agree with, and enjoy. Plus, I’m scared that if I wrote a purely negative review 50’d get jacked up on Vitamin Water and come beat me to death. He’s probably already taping my calls.
I’d say Terminate On Site uses every played-out trick in the “I’m a G” book, but in all fairness, G-Unit wrote the book. Just take the lead single Ridah (Part 2), an addictively produced track by Rick Rock. I know everyone and their momma is auto-tuning their choruses (a.k.a. “T-Pain-ing”), but the effect turns 50’s trademark growl into an adolescent “woah-woah-woah” that stays stuck in your head like, well, I’ll let Young Buck explain: “This G-Unit, f**k your click, like syphilis you’re stuck with this.” That’s right, he just said listening to G-Unit was the equivalent of catching an STD. Well done sir, well done. But that’s nothing compared to the shockingly bad Kitty Kat, a track whose chorus is, I s**t you not, a man adopting a feminine voice and purring “Ooh, I need cash for my kitty cat.” If this song was recorded in prison I’d understand, but otherwise, why didn’t they get an actual female for the hook? Only God knows. And despite what you may have heard, Straight Outta Southside is not a tribute to tragically slain Sean Bell, unless you call one line about police brutality a tribute. If anything, it’s a tribute to N.W.A, whose classic Straight Outta Compton is the basis of the Unit’s version, but even then it rides the thin line between tribute and style-theft. Come to think of it, forget this album and go buy Straight Outta Compton. It’s everything Terminate On Sight could only hope to be.
It’s ridiculous to say G-Unit’s fallen off, the truth is they’re as strong as ever. 50 may have lost to Kanye, but Curtis still moved an astounding 600,000 units opening week, and Buck’s tearful reaction to his dismissal proves just how powerful 50 still is. So rejoice Unit members, Terminate On Sight is exactly the adrenaline-filled street album you were hoping for. Where better to start then the title track T.O.S., a grinding track that opens with a cement hard 50 declaring, “I’m on that SSK s**t, shoot, stab, kill.” Fortunately the often-overlooked Tony Yayo proves to be a capable lieutenant, and along with the always-dependable Banks, T.O.S. is a banger, end of story. Of course G-Unit could always flip their swagger for the ladies, and I Like The Way She Do It is no exception. Any song that will become a strip-club anthem is fine by me, and it should inspire no shortage of stripper-esque movement in the clubs. But in the end The Way She Do It isn’t why you pick up a G-Unit album, Casualties of War is. Let’s just say that if I was riding around at two in the morning plotting a robbery, and I never am, I probably would be bumping Casualties. Yeah, it’s like that. G-Unit’s always been the hip-hop equivalent of a Kevlar vest, and on Terminate On Sight they’re as bulletproof as ever.
So there it is. The battle-lines have been drawn, the flags raised, the reviews written. Which side are you on? Or are you one of the few who know better than to get drawn into meaningless wars? Your choice. What’s it going to be?

They definitely heading into the right direction, but I don't think their back for real. 50 is getting more aggressive which is always a good sign, something he's lacked in the past releases. Banks is back with his lyric game and flow, even Yayo sounding more energized and lyrically entertaining. So the Unit is back, but the album is only decent, it doesn't quite flow too well and the radio play cuts, "I Like The Way She Do It", "Kitty Kat" and "Close To Me" are all mediocre. They got some bangers tho and that street stuff, "Casualties Of War", "Ready Or Not", "No Days Off" and "Money Make The World Go Round". Amusing is that 50 isn't on "Money Make The World Go Round" and "Ready Or Not"......anyway nice review, definitely agree.

This album is fire! I Love it! It's a great combination of street bangers that make you wanna kick some @$$ and party jams that make you wanna grab some @$$! haha. PS Great review (besides the 3/5 part) This album is a 4/5 BANGER, and I think you need to throw "Close To Me" into that Ready For Radio category, that song will be big and I love Banks on the chorus.

You know what? After further consideration and some very convincing comments, I'm taking the unusual step of changing the rating. I can't do a 4, but I will 3.5 the damn thing. If nothing else TOS is a banger, and just giving it a 3 is a bit of an underestimation. And, for the record, I couldn't have been more right about the civil war G-Unit started, just look at the comments and ratings above. I'm not saying I told ya so, but...

I started listening to this and it was a tough ride to get to the 10th song (Kitty Kat, a disgraceful attempt at radio material)… If the next 6 songs left to hear don’t change my mind, I won’t come back here to change my vote… Up until now, what I’m listening is a random bunch of songs that could be pulled off by ANY other group in the game (the amount of more talented artists out there is scary). Their last hit will still be a 2003/2004 track, make no mistake about that. Doesn’t that mean something?! Come on!! To all die-hard G-Unit fans out there: I WAS a G-Unit fan! You know why? Cuz once upon a time, there was an album called Beg for Mercy, and… (you get the point!). So don’t come here praising this as if it’s a 5* material. BE honest. If T.O.S is 5*, how many you give BFM?!? I’m only comparing them to themselves. I’ll be very surprised if G-Unit doesn’t end with only 2 albums ever made (I mean, you don’t really think there will be more than one person left by the next attempt… lol).
PS: Don’t get me wrong! If, let’s say, one of my favs Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West or Chamillionaire come up with a garbage-full album, I’ll give them 1* equivalent! It’s not hate, it’s not “bite the hand that feeds you” attitude, it’s just unbiased judgement. So please don’t throw the “haters” card randomly just to justify why people don’t like this album. Let’s keep this comment board intelligent! |

after listenin to the whole album, i think it goes down in the decent but no great category, with my count bein that there is 9 good or listenable songs and 7 garbage songs. The album only has 1 classic song on it in my opinion which is Straight Outta Southside though Rider Pt.2 good song with some good lines in it. I agree with FredRico in sayin that this album dosnt come close to Beg For Mercy, but its still decent enough to warrant a rating of 3 out 5

I heard the last 6 songs… and changed my mind! 1,5* is what they get! lol Well, if Nathan can change his vote, so can I (gotta give you props for the review’s originality, good work!). Give JIM JONES & BYRDGANG - THE M.O.B. ALBUM a chance and you’ll see how easy it is to have a BETTER album than G-Unit’s these days.

i wud rate it 4 but since so many haters giving it one i will give 5 to bring up the total, this one is even better then beg for mercy in my area l.a. yes L.A. it's sold out at 2/3 stores. plus g unit is headed in right direction they need to release close to me as a single how come people giving 5's to plies and 1's to g-unit, that is why hip hop is dead, and fredrico it's obvious that you are hater since first you rate it really bad and then rate it again so the overall score goes down

Now, everyone knows that I am probably the biggest G-Unit fan on the site; but This is one of the worst G-Unit albums that I have ever heard! All of the tracks that I liked, I already heard on their previous two mixtapes. I am very disappointed in them as a whole. Their singles for this album are only sub-par by true G-Unit standards. GREAT write-up Nate! For people who don't get the mixtapes; then this album might just be a 3.5; but for someone who's been jamming to some of the good tracks for over a month or two now It's only OK...50 is still the shiznit; but these efforts aren't as good as they could have been. Almost like they put in way less effort...
PS - 50 could probably still lyrically battle anyone and win; but this isn't a good look...I'll be looking for the new 50 album and new eminem album to redeem this BS (supposedly coming end 2008 or 2009)! |

I Am so PISSED! i waited since the 8th grade to hear their second effort and they put out this shit! It sounded like mixtape! The singles are trash 50 sounds like he's whineing on I like The Way She Do It and Yayo raps like he's lazy and doesnt rhyme and when I thought Banks could save it...I wanted to break my speakers he was worse than Yayo the only thing that stopped me from turning the computer off was Buck he was the shit through out the whole album. And it's basically rinse and repeat through out the album tracks like southside have a great beat but trash lyrics. Piano Man had a great chorus but only 1 good verse and that was by Buck who dominated every song he was on. The album is filled with catchy choruses even Ryder Pt2 had a decent chorus I dont mind the vocoder I've even used it but as far as lyrics go Buck shines I hope he can recocile because he goes in. #2 would be 50 he's surprizeing on tracks like Southside. After that I cant say either Yayo or Banks is 3rd or 4th because they bonifide trash. 1 verse was hot by Banks and that was on Money Makes the World Go Round 2 verses were hot by Yayo and one of them was on Money Makes the World Go Round. Over all it was the same old I'rich Bitches Love Me Money Is Greater Than God. Sheek Louch actualy had a great album that had tremendous production and on a independant label that was ten times better than this glorified mixtape. Sheeks worse track We Spray Crowds was equal to this albums best track Money Make The World Go Round. unfortunewtly however is incharge of marketing at Koch is a retard the two lead singles should be Keep Pushin and That's a Soldier. But This album is a great dissapointment and will no doubt out sell Silverback Gorilla 100:1 based on purehype and white boyz who think G-Unit Is SOO KEWL! who

This album is hard as @*#$!!! I was always @*#$! wit 50, Banks spit some shit, but before this album Yayo was just out here sayin some bullshit wavin his hand in front of his face. They all came hard on this album and the production on the album helped step the Units game up. That Let it Go track is one of the hardest tracks on the album. This is one of the best albums I have heard in 08 and is deserving of at least a 4 or a 5 star ratin. O yeah and that new 3-6 Last 2 Walk is a classic!! If you are gonna buy a CD these are two groups to support.

If u give this an album a 1, that means the LYRICS are wack, the beats are simply awful, and there is no flow between artists. 50's got swagger, Banks got the ill lyrics, and ayao has stepped his game up. Plies's album and Rick Ross album r getting better reviews then this. COME ON!! I'm losing respect for this site. This is by no menas a 5, but i'll give it 1 to even out the ratings..
