Recovery is the worst album of Eminem’s career. Recovery is the best album of Eminem’s career. It’s both. That ambiguity may sound like a cop out, and truth be told maybe it is, but in all honesty, I can’t remember being as confused about an album as I am about Recovery. Thanks to a newfound sobriety, it features the most mentally stable and mature Eminem we’ve ever heard, but, as music fans, do we really want a stable and mature Eminem? We certainly didn’t want a happily married and domesticated Usher. Recovery is also Eminem’s least purely “hip-hop” album, and while I genuinely applaud his willingness to defy the expected, I tend to like my Eminem as rawly hip-hop as possible. If I retreated to a secluded cabin and did nothing but listen to Recovery for a month I may be able to better weigh its value, but for now, I have far more questions than answers.

In my review of Eminem’s last album, the hyperbolically dark Relapse, I wrote that it was a cathartic work for Em, that he needed to get all that pain out of his system in order to get back to making great music. God I love when I’m right. Whatever its strengths and weaknesses, Recovery is easily the most courageous album of Eminem’s career as he stiff arms guest rappers (with one notable exception), delivers his first skit-free album and sonically ventures into everything from hard rock to quasi-ballads. More than a decade after the Slim Shady LP we’ve heard a lot from Eminem, but we’ve never heard anything like this.

When Recovery is good, oh f**k is it good. The album’s lead single Not Afraid is one of the least likely number one hits in music industry, not because it doesn’t sound dope, but because a fearlessly honest track about maintaining sobriety isn’t exactly your usual formula for chart success. It’s a testament to the strength of Eminem’s delivery that he’s transformed Not Afraid into a smash, it’s an absolutely gripping track, and it’s far from the only one on Recovery. The similarly themed Going Through Changes, which fittingly utilizes an Ozzy Osbourne sample, finds Em diving headfirst into a long list of his weaknesses, and the pounding Almost Famous provides an answer to anyone wondering if Em can still come as lyrically vicious as ever. Eminem pours his heart into Recovery, and it’s fascinating to listen to it beat.

While Eminem spends much of Recovery proving that he’s once again a serious contender for the best rapper alive title, unfortunately the album’s production and hooks, particularly when Eminem sings them, fall short. And before you start telling me, as some already have, that the hook and the beat “don’t matter,” that they’re “only a small part of the song,” let me offer this analogy: you go to Subway and they make you a delicious looking ham BLT. But then, instead of mayonnaise, they spread some poo on the bread. Are you eating that BLT, even though the poo spread’s only a “small part” of the overall sandwich? I thought not. Unfortunately, Eminem serves up more than a couple poo sandwiches on Recovery, even if he does so with the best of intentions, starting with No Love. It’s an absolute shame to waste incredible verses from Em and Lil Wayne on a beat that sounds like a joke at worst, and calls too much attention to itself at the least. Even more disappointing is the arena rock Cinderella Man, which finds producer Script Sheperd doing a poor man’s Timbaland impression, and Eminem’s vocals on You’re Never Over are so bad it sounds like he’s doing a parody of a cheesy r&b singer. And just like that, what could have been a classic track, becomes an average track.

As long as we’re on the topic, while longtime fans were undoubtedly nervous to see pop-rock singer Pink make an appearance on Won’t Back Down, the result is one of the album’s best tracks, and while the Rihanna-assisted Love the Way You Lie doesn’t work as well (listening to Em on a Ne-Yo-esque cut is more than a little strange), its nowhere near as bad as some might fear. But, although I’ll argue until the end that these things truly matter, I don’t want to get too caught up on the album’s specifics. Both personally and professionally Eminem couldn’t keep making the same music he did when he was 20, and while Recovery falters, it’s dope to hear Eminem moving in a new, and potentially even better, direction. Recovery feels like the album before a truly great album, a warm-up to a classic, and I can’t wait to hear what he’s cooking up next. Damn, looks like I have a pretty clear opinion on Recovery after all.

- Intro
Slim Shady... Eminem... Marshall Mathers, where do I begin!?!? Recovery is simply put, his best work since The Eminem Show, and pretty much the dopest Hip-Hop album I've heard since Kanye West's, Graduation! Will it reach the success of 20 million units selling worldwide you ask? That most certainly will be a definte no (and you can quote me on that statement). But with Em going in merkin' every verse on even the wackest beats (in general), what's there to complain about? And I don't really like comparing when I write reviews but this is DEFINETLY A MAJOR IMPROVEMENT FROM HIS PREVIOUS EFFORT, Relapse. Relapse happens to be Eminem's weakest content to date, but a garbage Eminem album also means it's still LIGHTYEAR'S above 88.6% of the music that comes out in today's world we're in! But on to the core! : )

- Lyrical Content (5/5)
This is the highlight throughout the whole album, while just SOME of the production could've been just slightly better but nothing to complain about, Eminem manages to heal the beats wounds by delivering a fast steady paced flow with wity rhymes every track! And we finally get to listen to a REAL duet with Eminem and Lil Wayne over a song called "No Love." While both parties really deliver what's needed over a classic Haddaway sample, it's only right to say that Eminem still over-shadows Lil Wayne for the third time in a row on a track, but verses compete VERY close! With Lil Wayne saying, "But it's fxck the world, get a child out her/Yeah my life a b!+(#, but you know nothing bout her" and Eminem saying, "They call me a freak cause I like to spit on these pu$$ies before I eat 'em/And get these wack cxck-suckers off stage, where's Kanye when ya' need 'em?" what's there to go wrong? :D But people who are looking for just straight up lyrical content, "Cold Wind Blows," "On Fire," and "Almost Famous" will be the tunes to catch your ears for certain.

- Production (4/5)
While about 90% of the production is superb, I'm afraid that a newcomer to Eminem wouldn't be quite satisfied. Let's take the song , "Won't Back Down" featuring the mega pop/rock star, P!nk for example. This happens to be one of the weaker songs on the album and can easily get ignored by greater songs on this album (unless released as a single), it takes a different approach to the Eminem we're usually hearing and production really isn't saying much but manages to deliver a par-level hook with unorthodox (but yet, cool) flowed verses by Eminem... With that being said, I'm willing to bet this song would NOT have been created a decade ago! Anywho, production on songs such as "W.T.P." and "Space Bound" make up for this! Other than that, Eminem made no mistake by changing up his production team for this album, DJ Khalil and Just Blaze did fantastic jobs! HOWEVER, I still would have rather heard the majority of the album produced by Eminem himself! We all seen what happened with The Eminem Show might I remind you! :D

- Overall
Recovery will definetly please the long-time Eminem fans while still attracting a large portion of newcomer's to him as well... That have more than likely been impressed by the "Forever," "Drop the World," and "Airplanes Part 2" Eminem verses! And that's not hard to agree with, with "Not Afraid" being the second Hip-Hop song in history to DEBUT number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 ; ). Shady's BACK!!

* My Pick's
1. 25 to Life
2. Talkin 2 Myself feat. Kobe
3. No Love feat. Lil Wayne
4. W.T.P.
5. Space Bound

* My Pick In Album Order
1. The Eminem Show
2. The Marshall Mathers LP
3. The Slim Shady LP
4. Recovery
5. Encore
6. Relapse/Refill

***SIDE NOTE***
Am I the only one who feels that the second verse (possibly the whole song) on "Seduction" was mocking Jay-Z? Em spits, "There's a seven disc changer in her car/And I'm in every single slot, and you're not... Augh!" and Em' contines to say "augh" after wity rhymes afterwards.

Now if I'm not mistaken, Jay-Z is the only rapper I know that says "augh" after most bars... You'll hear him saying it a lot throughout The Blueprint 3; most noteable, "D.O.A." and "Off That" but something more recent is Drake's "Light Up" which you can hear Jay saying it a bit. And from what I got in "Seduction," it sounded like there was some slick mouth talking going on lol.

I mean let's simplify it like this, try replacing the word "augh" with the word "burr" in "Seduction" and you'll see an example of what I mean, cause WE ALL KNOW who says "burr" : /. Do you catch my drift now? Just thought I'd point that out, it caught my attention!

There are at least 5 good songs on this album. This album does have some trash songs like Won't Back Down and No Love (just my opinion). This isn't one of Eminem's best nor is it the all out album I expected it to be (I DLed this whole album a week ago). It has some good songs but people need to stop thinking that this album is like the greatest one Eminem ever made or stuff like that. Eminem needs to stop singing on these tracks too. I'm not hating on this album, I'm just stating my opinion. Going Through Changes, Not Afraid, Love the Way You Lie, 25 to Life and Talkin' 2 Myself are my favorite tracks.

Can't believe you din't like "Cinderella Man"..thats a wicked song..and the hook is mad..but anyway, music is 'bout opinions and thats your..i think the features were the strengths of the album, mainly because Em wasn't singing..not sure why he insits on doing so..maybe he will "recover" from that too..but ignoring that i think Recovery showcases that not many rappers can mess with Em..great album..fav. tracks: 25 to life, Love the Way You Lie..!!

@Lil Majer - I really, really doubt that was a Jay-Z diss. Earlier in the album he does an entire verse about how stupid it'd be for him to start beef with rappers like Wayne and Kanye, so I don't see why he'd take on the most powerful man in rap just a few tracks later. I love the attention to detail, but I think you're seeing ghosts there.

3.5? Won't back down and WTP as radio songs? You serious? This review is awful. Recovery is one of Em's best albums outside of a few average tracks.

First off, I have one word to describe this cd, and that is sober...it is very sober...
Even though on Relapse there was a few songs that a hated, there was also a couple that i loved. This one however lacks those stand-out tracks or songs that really get you excited. Don't get me wrong, this is a really good cd, through and through, but it doesn't have any great songs. Lyrically they are all good, and most of the beasts are cool, but for some reason, i'm just not feeling it. "Going though changes" is my favorite song on the album, but i'm not sure which song will blow up the radios like his past album singles. Maybe "Won't back down", but all of these songs are so consistent, that it is hard to say.

Second, I'm pretty sure it is a consensus that Em albums go:
1)Marshall Mathers LP(hands down)
2)Slim Shady LP
3)The Eminem Show
4)Infinite
5)everything else...

Haha, I KNEW you've have the same feeling about No Love as you did when it first leaked.

But, back towards the rest of the album. If this is the sober Eminem we're getting, the one trying to relive the Rap Olympics, then it's an Eminem I'm willing to take any day of the week.

This might be the most commercial Eminem release ever, a definite upgrade from the nearly non-listenable Relapse album of a year ago. On nearly everything he touches save for maybe "W.T.P.", Em takes his pen and paints the walls with enough punchlines, similes and wordplay to let your jaw seemingly hit the floor. Even the most predictable Dr. Dre beat I've ever heard in "So Bad" gets taken to task by a sober Marshall.

"Talkin 2 Myself" could easily be a radio single thanks to Kobe's alternative hook and Em admitting truths that even the most casual hip-hop fan would want to find out about. The other venomous barbs from "Almost Famous", "On Fire" & "Cinderella Man" considerably find themselves being rewound, not just for the shock value of the lines, but as a whole - it's the most lyrical album we've heard all year.

You would think a man who dominated the genre for a decade would run out of steam by now. Instead, he makes one of the best crafted hip-hop albums this year.

omg @Nathan S. your so funny, for thoose ppl who dont think the hook and beat matter...then wtf its not a song you might as well just listen to freestyles, you have to have everything click, verses production hook, to be a banger song. Em hasn't done that on most of these songs folks. I'm not a hater I just point out the obvious as Nathan from the booth does.

Ok, wow I had to comment again.

Ok first off Nathan this is the first review you've ever wrote that I had to say WTF was he thinking?!

First off, there's no way relapse was better than this, this album is up for Eminem's best album EVER.

Ok let me go through some tracks.

How do you not even mention talkin 2 myself btw or space bound?! I'm blown away by that Nathan wow.

No rapper would ever get as honest and personal as Em did on talkin to my self and no one can trash themself and make classic music at the same time like Eminem.

I honestly think won't back down is the worst track on the album I don't understand why anyone likes it Pink RUINS it.

Get over the production on No Love nathan, it's not bad it's just not for you that is an AMAZING song.

Also on You're Never Over Nathan did you listen to the song man?! I completely understand why he sang the hook himself it wasn't about making the hook sound amazing man that is the most personal track on the album I can COMPELTELY see why he did it himself man he's talking to his best friend. That song was for Em not anyone else and it's a classic.

Ugh I just can't believe this album got a 3.5 I thought 4.5 at the LOWEST, I was expecting the first 5 star classic rating of the year.

I guess we just don't see eye to eye on this one man, I usually love your reviews but I thought this was terrible this album is AMAZING.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO! I mean its all opinion based, but, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. You think this album is worse than Relapse????? That was his worst album! I'm guessing you thought Encore was better than this album too.
I guess if you hate how bad he is at singing, then this album is not for you. But i like Eminem's singing, its fvckin catchy as hell! And for you to bash a song like No Love? Thats a joke. In my opinion, if the verses are great, then the song is great (barring a Joe Budden hook! Which didn't happen on No Love). The sample used was absolutely GENIUS. Its fits perfectly. And that was one of the best Lil Wayne verses I have ever heard.
That Subway analogy made me laugh, but its not a good analogy. Comparing a bad beat to poop is just ridiculous. I didn't think the beat was bad either.

Now i have not listened to the entire, hell, i dont even think i have listened to have of it. I have probably listened to like 7 songs, and they were all straight fire. There was probably like 3 or 4 songs that i will have on repeat from Relapse. All 7 songs ive heard will be on repeat. I'll rate this when i buy it. but there is no doubt that this is better than Relapse. 6/21

Lil Majer: hahahah i just listened to it, yea I think he is, that would be funny as hellll, cuz that sh1t that Jay does is so fvckin annoying

@Nathan S.-great review. but i do have one problem. u say that Em makes a strong case to claim best rapper alive again, but falls short because of hooks and beats. now, hooks and beats r very important to songs, but wat do they have to do with being best rapper?

I think this review is what happens when you place an artist in a little box called "this is what I want to hear from you." Was I surprised to hear an arena rock anthem? A potentially corny What Is Love sample? Hell yeah. And the tracks with Pink and Rihanna? I had huge doubts. Hell, I thought this album would be about roses and butterflies.

Lots of times artists experiment and it turns out bad. This isn't one of those occasions. When you think a beat or a hook is a little sketchy, Em single-handely carries it with his flows. I've found my head bobbing to practically every track, except for Space Bound, and I'll still listen to it.

This is Em's best work since The Eminem Show, clearly classic material.

Here's a suggestion for the Booth, and any listeners who aren't too sure: turn it off, put it away for a week. Clear your head of your expectations. After a week, come back and listen to it again, then decide how you like it. That's the way I listented to Relapse, an album I initially was like "meh" but now think it's one of Em's most cohesive albums. Doubters should do the same with this one. This is the real deal.

I'd say the best tracks, but there are so many I'll suggest tracks you could ultimately skip, if pressed for time:

Space Bound
So Bad (Dr. Dre seems to be loosing his touch)
Here We Go

The rest is straight fire. Don't let yourself miss out on greatness.

1.Cold Wind Blows- pretty sick intro. its def more of one of Em's ecentric flows. crazy line-"I set the world on fire, i piss on it to put it out." lol. chorus is good, production is ok.

2.Talkin 2 Myself (featuring Kobe)-first thing i noticed, i thought the beat was sick and Em's flow matched it perfectly. Kobe was very dynamic on the chorus. didnt think he could connect with Em on a song. he proved me wrong.

3.On Fire-pounding beat w/some darkness in the background. lyrically, Em was lethal. very mature and continuos hard spit punch lines. chorus wasnt as good, but didnt ruin the song. thats for sure.

4.Wont Back Down (featuring Pink)-def a brave and creative track from Em and Pink jumpin on the chorus. very similar track to Not Afraid cuz of the theme. "Not afraid to take a stand" compared to "I wont back down."

5.W.T.P.-questionable beat, but Em keeps up wit a quick delivering flow. one of the weaker chorus' on the album although, its still catchy.

6.Going Through Changes-very honest, tell-all track. this track has great rhythm and is def a head-nodder. Em is very detailed here and lets u feel wat he has/does. as real as hip hop gets. sick song.

7.Not Afraid- not much needs to be said here, we all kno bout this track. Em takes a major stand for himself and lets everyone kno wat he is all about. also, he lets u know he has made significant personal improvements in his life and its on full ear-popping display here.

8.Seduction-more of an old school Em sound. crazy and original rhyming with a rather smooth sound to a rather dark track.

9.No love (featuring Lil Wayne)-I do believe that the sample was a little out in left field and may not be the greatest idea, but im ok w/it.Wayne comes w/one of his best flows in a while here. he actaully had direction and didnt use any of that dumb sh!t that dont make any sense.
Em comes in second here with an equally hard, in-your-face flow letting them b!thces kno wats up lol.

10.Space Bound-sick intro here. very true words. lyrically, Em is his usual self and comes hard. however, the chorus and beat bring the song down sum.u kno wat, the chorus is rapidly growin on me right now. its actually pretty damn sick. all of a sudden i really like this track.

11.Cinderella Man-@Nathan S.-i also cant believe u dont like this track. it truly is wicked and everything from the beat, to the lyrics, to the chorus are simply hypnotizing. one of the best tracks on the album. very inspiring.

12.25 to Life-that chorus is gripping. very memorable part of the album. lyrically, i didnt like Em as much here. seemed a lil simple.

13.So Bad-the beat is the weakness here. the rest is nice. i really enjoyed the chorus and that Entourage reference, "I'm like Johnny Drama, i keep my entourage with me."

14.Almost Famous-hardcore lyrics, but i thought the chorus was corny.

15.Love The Way You Lie (featuring Rihanna)-all elements individually arent that good, but put it all together and it comes out decent. standout part is def Rihanna.

16.You're Never Over-def one of the weaker tracks on the album. its jus too boring. i never got into it.

17.Untitled-perfect title for a track w/out a specific theme or direction. this is another one of Em's old school songs. here, Em is unleashed like a vicious and sick 1999 St. Louis Rams offense. he jus airs it all out. a fitting fireworks finish to a great album.

This album has a high possibility of being my fav this yr, as well as the best hip hop album this yr. there are certainly a few tracks i can live w/out, but most of it is a dazzling hip hop display. lyrically, Em was as fresh and original as ever with his newfound mature, but still lethal flow. guest appearances did a great job of not shyin away from their talents. they put everything they had in order to maintain a close level to Em and did a great job. the production wasnt dissapointing, but it was the weakness. its jus sooo hard to match Em cuz he will lyrically overshadow the beat and make it sound worse than it actually is. Great Album!
4.5-as near classic as it gets w/out actually bein a classic.

Where should I begin?...

Not afraid.. : well for a first single , he defently chose the right one , smash until the end , and the chorus is incredible. i'd start to say in every song that the lyrics are perfect , because i'll repeat myself. lyrically , this album makes the album, if you understand what i mean.

Love the way you lie: I never thought rihanna could bring a special touch on a eminem album. She proves me wrong and she's seriously useful on this track, and those lyrics are amazing. It's easy for someone to take a part of this song and use it to remuse your entire life.

No love: Well some of you think that because they used of what is love sample , it's a problem. In fact , no , simple cause it's a mix of wonderful lyrical skilz , and dancing attractive beat. Lil wayne killed it , not as much as Em does.

Space Bound:... all about the chorus.. wow

Almost Famous: Strange song i must admit.. i don't understand it at all , lyrics are kind of funny , i think it should be on relapse instead of recovery.

Cinderella Man: Like this one, makes me feel happy.

Here We Go(The end): great flow by Em, feels like we're on a circus, and the main attaction isn't lion bitchesss

25 to life: sad , true lyricsss..

Cold Wind blows: when i saw the official playlist of eminem's new album recovery, i thought cold wind blows will be the saddest song on the album , i got wrong cause in fact ,it's thw worst song of the album.. there must be one..! (hard to find)

Going thru changes: never change emm!

On fire: Dr Dre shouldn't have been on this album , i hate both production he did and seriously , i dont like this song at all.

Seduction: hmm. could i say it seduced me?.. Girls on the floorr..!

So Bad: Funny song , even if the beat isn't original at all.

Talkin 2 myself: LIKE IT, this song is a way for em, to tel everybody that is really back ,that i ain't never gonna leave again. evertything you whisper to yourself in life , man EM did this and made a wonderful song.

W.T.P.: great production, 50 cent could have been good on this one as a featuring

You're never over: could have been a smash hit , but like Nathan said, the chorus part is...

Won'"t back down: Pink is incredible on this one and like eminem said , she really smash this hit

But in fact recovery isn't the best album of em , but one of the best of all time. So if u can understand it right, em has a lot of them on top..!

Ok I was waiting for this album for so long, I searched all the time to find if there was a leak and heres my opinion of the album song by song.

#1. Cold Wind Blows - That little dum dum dilado do or whatever in the beginning is so catchy and it just hypes you up to how he kills it on the first verse! The hook is ok I agree with what everyone is saying some of the hooks are lame, but anyways he continues to kill the verses with metaphors and fast rhymes. 3/5

#2. Talkin 2 Myself - The hook is actually listenable to, and this song is like deep and real with good verses. 4/5

#3. On Fire - Starts out sounding like its gonna be dark with the aaaaaaahhh and talking about how his dog died right off the bat, ha and it is pretty evil but not as evil as he can be. 4/5

#4. Wont Back Down - I was surprised that it was good, P!NK didnt make it horrible and Eminem just starts goin ham on the beat I like this song alot. so 5/5

#5. W.T.P - This could def be on the radio, its catchy and simple and relates to everyday life "we aint stoppin till we see the morning sun" partyin till the suns up.. 4/5

#6. Going Through Changes - This is just about my favorite track on the album and I can't stop listening to it, the ozzy hook was genius and em gets real with crazy flows and rhymes again. 5/5

#7. Not Afraid - You already know. I love this song everywhere i go ill hear it atleast once,, 4/5

#8. Seduction - Me and my friends listened to this together and it made us just smile and laugh the whole time, "shes got her jaw stuck, from suckin my di**, aw fu*k" ha lol 5/5

#9. No Love - yes i could do without that lame ass hook, and then when theyre switching verses it just sounds like a bunch of garbage and it last to long i guesstimate 45 secs. but the verses of how raw and dope they were alone make me give this song a 5/5

#10. Space Bound - Im kinda iffy on this song idk, i love the beginning how it starts out then goes straight to his verse, the hook is another he couldve done without, 3/5

#11. Cinderella Man - I love this beat me and my friends have been freestyling off it lately, he couldve done without the cinderella man cinderella man every punchline just about it gets kinda old, but good verses and production 4/5

#12. 25 To Life - I cant stand the hook, that girl singing is just so annoying but I like the verses, I can feel them cause a girl has recently been treating me like how he describes the girl in this song. so a 4/5

#13. So Bad- its an ok track its not memorable and its not bad, just listenable. 3/5

#14. Almost Famous - Another hook i just dont understand that girl is just another annoying person you have to listen to, in order to get to the dopeness, so i rate this 3/5

#15. Love the way you lie - i love the hook rihanna sounds good, and the verses are good and stay to the point with good flows and big word rhymes, so this track gets a 5/5

When I finished listening to the album, I didnt take it out, I put it back on and listened to it again and it hasnt left that spot for the past week. This album is way better then Relapse and it sounds more like his old self and I can't wait for his next album, he needs to have Dr. Dre go back to being his main producer then itll be even better!

Sadly Nathan, you said the same exact thing about Relapse....the warm up to a classic. Is this as good as Relapse? No. At least not in my opinion. But this is still one of the better hip-hop albums of the year, if you can even call it a hip-hop album. But that's another argument.
My favorite track is "Space Bound". The lyrics and production make me feel like I want to go sky high. Otherwise a lot of the other tracks on here are good as well. One I was surprised that Nathan didn't like was "Cinderella Man". I really liked this song, as well as "No Love". "On Fire" and "W.T.P" were pretty bad in my opinion. Was a little dissapointed in the Dr. Dre track but it wasn't horrible.
I feel like this album was all over the place. Like without his skits and alter-ego songs it wasn't pieced together well. But still 4/5.

OH NO! Nathan; this is a very porely writen review. I look back on what you gave Relapse, and you gave it a four. You then give Recovery a 3.5? That right there is very wrong! Relapse was and still remains to be Em's worse album to date. Recovery is one of Em's best (the best since Marshal Mathers LP or even The Eminem Show). I just don't understand how you can rate this album lower than you did Relapse. Whatever; I guess I'll search for different opinions.

well well every rating here has been 4stars & up but im gonna buck da trend coz i HATED his song with pink (maybe coz i just hate pink's voice fullstop.)

Not afraid, was meh...no love was awesome on the lyrics side but horrible on the beat side...wont back down didnt rock my boat.

I have bought every single em album including relapse (which in my opinion was awesome!! lyrically, beatwise and concept wise!!) but im gonna have to skip this one in my collection and pretend this album never happened.

side note: only one song with Dre!!! No!! & dat one average as well!

Eminem is back for real, i love this album. I'm not gonna lie when i saw the production list i was kinda worried at first because i'm not used to hearing Em on different producers beats unless he's a guest feature but i wasn't disappointed especially with "No Love" that song is amazing/ Great job Marshall

This Album is musically the best Em has done in his entire carreer and Lyrically it is def an adult Slim Shady so your review is surprising and kind of a very different take on what I heard. Btw Script Shepherd produced the @*#$! out of Cinderella Man Timbaland ain't got nothing on that beat..plus it is prob the head banger of the entire album..really liked WTP don't think it will be a radio hit but the Rhianna song is already...I liked the wayne song too No Love and dude your review shows true talent No Love...Em has matured and he is putting out quality that will force you to take a second listen

@EricMH -- 25 to Life is about hip-hop, not a girl. thats the beauty of the song.

Definitely best work since Eminem Show. I wish Em himself produced 2 or 3 tracks tho. Lyrically, brilliant. Production, lacking at times. Hooks, not so strong.

Favorite Tracks:
Seduction 4.5/5
Not Afraid 5/5
25 to Life 4.5/5
Space Bound 4/5
Talkin 2 Myself 4.5/5

I have to agree the production isnt good on a few songs but since the album is 17 tracks deep, it makes up for it. Eminem's lyrics are amazing on here and proves that he is one of the best rappers alive. Just listen to the lyrics on all these songs and you'll realize few can do it like Eminem! Classic album in my mind!

@ u0dCameron, dude you took the words right out of my mouth, that's exactly how I feel about the alubm.

Now Nathan, I do agree about some weak production and faulty hooks, but did you listen intensely to the 'goin through changes' or '25 to life'?

Man, these songs are amazing. The quality of these songs reminds me of 'Mockingbird' or 'When Im Gone'. Just ridiculous, that honesty he conveys with his deep rap is ridiculous.

Nathan, your metaphor with Subway and poo? Really dude, that's just @*#$! stupid. You know a review is weak and lacks substance when feces are used as an analogy. I disagree with you SOOOO heavily on 'Love the Way You Lie'. "Ne-Yo esque hook"? Rihannas hook works smoothly with the integrity of Eminems verses. The two create a paradox between each other, giving you the best of singing, as well as rap.

Definitely deserved more then 3.5 stars. I thought 4, AT LEAST.

As I said earlier, narrow-minded Nathan, the production is a LITTLE weak, which leaves me rating the album 4.5.

Favourite songs:
25 to Life
Love the Way You Lie
Goin Through Changes
No Love
Space Bound

@ReturnofSanta: Well I guess every album is a classic, because that happens with every album.

Listen, I thought it was a great album. But I wanted to be vibing to this from beginning to end. Unfortunately, I found myself skipping half the songs.

There are definitely a few songs I will listen to for awhile, but the rest of the album was forgettable.

My favorites in order.

1. Going Through Changes (easily the best song on the album)

2. Not Afraid

3. 25 to life

4. No Love

5. Love the way you Lie

No Love, and Love the way you Lie will get plenty of radio play. (Love the way you Lie has already been on the radio)

I think everyone expects way too much from Eminem. I think some people who rated the album poorly maybe need to take a listen to other rappers albums and their lyrics, and then come back to Recovery. You'll notice that Eminem calibre is so far above everyone else's. I mean, sure I love Drake, but how overrated is he now? Same flow everytime. It's boring. Artists need to be diverse to show their true talent. Eminem does that with ease.

Not afraid is Eminem's best single he's ever released and I'm hoping it'll sell very well and show the rest of the industry the king's back for his thrown.

This is Eminem's best EVER lyrical album to date, argue agaisn't that statement all you want, but it's just a fact.

No Love
Space Bound
Not Afraid
25 to life
Cinderella Man

I guess I must actually appreciate the way that Eminem is going on this one, he's letting us all into his life it feels like to me, as on tracks like "Love The Way You Lie", "Not Afraid", "Going Through Changes", and my top favorite pick, "Space Bound" he talks about love, life, and the things that he's went through throughout his career and before as well, This is the only Review, that I almost completely disagree with you on Nathan, and thats a first. W.T.P., was one of the worst tracks on this album in my opinion BESIDES the completely horrible Won't Back Down which I couldnt even listen to when I heard Pink, and thats not going to change. I think Eminem is taking a more soft looked approach, he's through the dark side of his career, and he's enjoying life and making music now. "You're Never Over", although you said was an average track, I think is completely above that, I agree on the Eminem singing part, as his voice is no amazing singing voice, but lyrically this song is really great, and I think it deserves more of a chance than just saying its an "Average Track". I may have not analyzed every single track on here, but what tracks I did are truly great tracks, and they've been on repeat over and over.

Top Picks-
Love The Way You Lie
Space Bound
25 To Life
You're Never Over
No Love (I think this ones gonna blow up the clubs)

However this is one of the worst albums ive ever heard, the production is horrible. You cant have a lyrical album without good production which is why I hate this album so much, and its way to poppy

definetly the best since the slim shady show. album hits stores 2ma nd il b gettin it. i think erysong is great nd better than accent filled songs like we made you. the lead single "not afraid" is awesome nd reminded me of the best song on "relapse" "beautiful". Em is one of the best rappers alive. his singing is good. his verses r sick nd production is okay. if this is a warm-up like nate said then we r gonna need another star. but i do think his next album will be better (least i hope it will.) i wonder what is gonna be named? if nate names it he'll prolly call it mayo. but no disrespect 2 him hes reviewed nd posted almost ery single, albums on here but i think he just needs 2 actualt lisen to shady. anyway cant wait 4 ds album nd others 2 come.

I knew this bull would happen after I read the No Love review. I'd love to put something well written and insightful here, but lets look at the obvious. You just gave Em's ablum the same rating as Travie from Gym Class?.....you're over thinking this. There is nothing in Hip-Hop in recent memory that has been able to come close to touching this. The Carter 3 was blew. Blueprint 3 was all over the place. Luda, hasn't put out a good album since Word of Mouf. This LP is complete, the rhymes are TOPS in the game right now. Which begs the question. What the hell have u been listening to to give this a worse rating than Drakes album? I think a propper media crossover example would be in 2009 when X-Men Origins: Wolverine came out and we all thought it was just okay and then was quickly exposed when Star Trek debuted the following week.....i'm just rambling and saying nothing of substance i know.....Stop dissecting this @*#$! album and just feel it. Jeez

Ok, now that I have listened to the entire album, I can rate it an give my review on it. I don't care much for beats, so I won't talk about that at all. All lyrics/hooks for me.

Cold Wind Blows: Hooks is ok. He had some pretty good lines in here. It was a good opener. "Yea, I laugh when I call you a @*#$!, it's funny" I found that hilarious! 7/10.

Talkin 2 Myself: Very nice hook from Kobe. One of the best, if not the best, on the album. Em talks about some stuff that I thought I would never hear (dissing Wayne and Kanye). Definitely a great track. 9/10.

On Fire: Not feeling this song very much. Old type of Em. Nice bullsh1t hook Em. Haha. 6/10.

Won't Back Down: First listen I wasn't feeling this. But I've heard it about 5 times now, and I'm really feeling it. Pink hook was ok, I was feeling Em's verses. I also really like when they turn his mic down. Great effect. I thought there was something wrong when I first heard the song. 8/10.

W.T.P.: Its a funny Eminem song. I honestly don't hate this song. Its funny. "I don't need a tank top to be a wife beater" LMAO. 7/10.

Going Through Changes: One of the top songs for sure. He opens up a lot. This is the Eminem that I really like. Great sample. 10/10.

Not Afraid: The best lead single from Eminem ever. A very serious track. I like the hook a lot. The verses are crazy too. I gave this a 5 star on here when it was feature, so why not a 10/10.

Seduction: I like the hook, verses were cool. And he is definitely mocking Jay Z. No doubt. 7.5/10.

No Love: In my opinion, this is a GREAT sample. A GREAT hook. 2 GREAT verses. So all of this leads to a GREAT song. I can't believe that you don't like this song Nathan. 10/10.

Space Bound: Possible single. Great hook. I love this song. Em comes hard like pretty much every song on this album. The hook gives me the chills, kinda reminds me of Airplanes. 9/10.

Cinderella Man: Another very enjoyable track. Another very strong hook. More great lyrics from Em. Can't believe you didn't like this Nathan. 9/10.

25 to Life: This is in my opinion a better version of I Used To Love Her. But since it comes out after IUTLH, it won't be considered as great as Commons. 9/10.

So Bad: The worst song on the album. Lyrics were ok, and the hook wasn't very good. 6/10.

Almost Famous: Lyrically I thought this was very good. He had some really sick lines in here. I liked the hook here. Liking this song. 9/10.

Love The Way You Lie: I really liked Rihanna's hook (that's all she's good for in my opinion). Which is the best part in my opinion. This song will be big. Em came with it too. I like the deep side of him. 9/10.

You're Never Over: This is a really sad song. Inspiring, I guess. 8.5/10.

Untitled: Just barely better than So Bad. 6/10.

All in all, this album is EPIC. Even the bad songs are definitely listenable. WAYYYYYYYYYYYY better than Relapse.

You should never let a hook or beat ruin a song for you. Some hooks can do that, but I don't see any on Recovery that do. For me, beats will never ruin a song. NEVER. 3.5 rating is a FLAT OUT JOKE. Classic album right here.

There are at least 7 good songs on this album. This album does have some trash songs like W.T.P. Won't Back Down and No Love (I hate lil wayne). Cold Wind Blows, Cinderella Man, Going Through Changes, Not Afraid, Love the Way You Lie, 25 to Life and Talkin' 2 Myself are my favorite tracks.

Wearing your fresh nikes and ohhh you better not scruff em up or your gonna say hello to my GLOCK. Even though half these rappers prolly never shot anyone. Thats the thing about eminem. His songs have direction...where hes making a point across. Break it down track my track his flow is on point during everyone and the lyrics are just insane. Since its leaked ive heard this cd twice a day and i just bought it and am listening to it now.

If ever there was a classic album this is it. Eminem is in top form here creating an album that has a new sound yet somehow brings along the best of all Em's talents. His catchy hooks are back and better than ever as are his lyrics and his delivery is still in another dimension.

Not Afraid, Going Through Changes and Won't Back Down are my three favorite Eminem tracks period!

A lot of people are trying to find things wrong with this album right now, but I feel once history is written this will be remembered as his greatest accomplishement, unless of course he outdoes himself in the future.

Cinderella Man especially, I dig that song in a big way! The bagpipes get me so pumped and his delivery of that "get your crew to hype you up, stand behind you like Woo" just makes me smile.. Why didn't my first review appear...well it was super long, and i wont be doing that again, haha

First off, if you care a lot about beats, then i guess this isn't your album (apparently the beats are bad). 2nd, if you don't like Em "singing", then this isn't your album. 3rd, if you like good music, with deep, meaningful lyrics, then this IS your album (depending on the 1 and 2). You SHOULD NEVER let a beat ruin a song. A beat cannot ruin a song!

Honestly, this is one of the BEST albums i have EVER heard. From start to finish, Em comes hard lyrically. He has many songs on this that I can compare to his best songs ever. There are plenty of songs that can compare to Like Toy Soldiers, and When I'm Gone, which are the TYPE of songs that made me fall in love with him.

CLASSIC

Top Songs:
Space Bound: Insane hook, and good lyrics.
Talkin 2 Myself: Opens up about some stuff, another great hook
Not Afraid: Best lead single from him
Goin Through Changes: More opening up from Em
No Love: Crazy verses, great sample
25 to Life: better than I Used To Love Her in my opinion

I didn't even name all of the top songs! Crazy album, Em, crazy album.

Youre Never Over: this was an extremely sad song, the lyrics just really hit me
Love The Way You Lie: i think Rihanna stole the show...great hook
Wont Back Down: this grew on me A TON

honestly, thats not even it...all songs are pretty much fire except for On Fire (although i love the bullsh1t hook, lol) and So Bad. And those are both decent. Not one BAD song on this album.

I've had the chance to listen to this album a bunch more over the last few days and while I was hoping I'd have some revelation and fall in love with it, it just hasn't happened. Music's inherently subjective, and subjectively, I don't think this is his best album.

Hey all! I'm new to this site and I only came across it because I was curious of what people were rating Em's new album.

First of I personally haven't been this excited for a hip-hop album in years. I would go as far as saying the last Hip Hop album I was this excited for was probably an ol' school wu tang album. I see most people complain of the fact that Em has changed a bit.. But hey its part of growing up. We all get older and our points of views change. I feel its inspiring to listen him beat out his habits and focus on what hes good at. Secondly without a shadow of a doubt this is his best album since the eminem show. His last 2 were horrible with probably a song or 2 from each album were good. His last album was a joke and to hear this one with the different kinda beats and passion that comes outta his lyrics makes Relapse seem like it didn't even exist.. its truly amazing! He even apologizes for them on this album lol . As for radio hits .. I think "Talkin' to Myself" will be on radio soon. And probably the Rhianna song too.. even tho I personally don't like it. All in all I give this album a 5 of 5! And this would be the beginning of Em's true come back to the game.

My order of EM's albums are as follow..

1- Marshall Mathers LP
2- Slim Shady LP
3- Recovery
4- The Eminem Show
5- Etc..

This is the Em I like to hear! Straight lyrical and not the negative crap we heard last album I bought the last album and I was disappointed, bought this album and I love it! Other than the opening track (where Em still kills it), the whole CD is laced with mainstream beats that the Dr. perfected for Em's album, way to get back in Dre, and way to get back to making "happier" music Em! Def a classic!! My favourite album nex to the Eminem Show!

Everything has pretty much been said, and seriously stop the hate on Nathan, we are all entitled to an opinion, and I respect his onlook, to me this album is a classic because there are just so many songs that give me shingles and a few I can relate to. I loved it more than Relapse, but I know Eminem can deff do better, he always can.

NOW I'M FROM DETROIT AND ALWAYS SUPPORT MY DETROIT ARTISTS, BUT OVER THE LAST COUPLE YEARS OR SO I THINK EM HAS LEFT SOMETHING TO BE DESIRED WITH HIS WORK. WITH THE DUMB VOICE AND ALL JUST WASN'T FEELIN IT. IT FELT LIKE HE WAS ON THE WAYNE TIP AND FELT HE COULD PUT OUT ANYTHING AND HAVE IT BE HOT. WHICH I WOULD HAVE AGREED WITH A FEW YEARS AGO PROBABLY. SO I GOTTA SAY MY EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS ALBUM WERE COMPLETELY NEUTRAL. I LISTENED TO IT FROM START TO FINISH JUST AS A HIP HOP/MUSIC FAN. NOT EXPECTING THE WORST AND ALSO KNOWING WHAT HE IS CAPABLE OF. SO WHEN IT WAS FINISHED I WAS ASTONISHED AT WHAT I HEARD. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS WOW THIS WAS EM'S FIRST "GROWN MAN" ALBUM AS AN ARTIST AND CLEARLY SHOWED HIS EVOLUTION AS SUCH. I WAS GLAD TO SEE A LOT OF HOMETOWN PRODUCTION ON THIS. (WHICH IS COMPLETELY ON POINT)THIS ALBUM AS A WHOLE DIDN'T MAKE ME WANT TO SKIP ANY TRACKS. NICE WORK!!!

EMINEM IS BACK LADIES AND GENTLEMAN...

Shits hot. I like it. I still think Relapse may be better as far as flows, hooks and beats go. Relapse in my opinion is one of the most vicious and creative albums he has made. Maybe Im just used to Slim Shady and Marshall LP but thats what I look for when I'm listening to him. It looks to me like Relapse was never really given a chance. People didn't like that album because he had no radio friendly tracks whereas this album is the total opposite. This album has at the least 3 top 10 hit records. Go home put on your beats by dre and listen to "Relapse". If you say Im a @*#$! idiot who doesnt know wtf Im saying just put on "Stay Wide Awake" listen close read the lyrics. Overall I give "Recovery" 4 stars. its a really great album that lacks some guidance when it comes to the production of some beats and the hooks. I hope he gives us a download pack like he did with the "Refill".

I wish I could choose my top songs but I just can't yet because I love nearly all the songs on this album, so I'm gonna wait and give the album more time to grow on me. The only songs I didn't like on the album were W.T.P. and Untitled. Crazy. Other than that I can't leave my room before finishing the album off.

@Nathan S. - I agree with ya, I think Em's not dissing Jay-Z but I also disagree that you think Jay-Z is "the most powerful man in rap". I think we all know Em is the most powerful man in rap.

A great album. I was glad to be apart of the 750,000+ 1st week sales. I totally disagree that this is both his worst and best album. New and different doesn't always mean that.

Great Album!!!! Looking at Relapse now, it was horrible... Recovery is much better lyrically and in every way. 80% of the tracks here are really enjoyable and have a great message.
