Dee-1, the New Orleans rhymesayer who rose to acclaim on the strength of 2011's DJBooth-hosted I Hope They Hear Me, Vol. 2, has now unleashed that project's highly-anticipated follow-up.
Hosted by fellow N.O. native and industry vet Mannie Fresh, The Focus Tape comes heralded by reader-acclaimed singles "Pause the Music," "Never Clockin' Out (Remix)" (featuring Killer Mike), "The Very Best," "Master P" and "SUAG (Shut Up And Grind)." Guest features include, but are not limited to, Juvenile, Lecrae, Mos Def, MURS and tabi Bonney. Beats come courtesy of CKP Productions, DJ FU, Flight School, The MVP's and many more.

Dee-1 caught my attention back when he was dropping "Jay, 50 and Weezy" , "David and Goliath" , "Fresh Air" and shit back then. I really don't know what happened, it seemed like before when he had his own direction he did well, but this mixtape was bad. A lot of the songs sound the same, and just don't bang. It's too bad to see an up and coming artist, take a turn for the worst. His last few features were poor and so is this mixtape. Dude went right until someone showed him left, too bad...

I only skimmed it, but where I Hope They Hear Me Vol. 2 had a lot of charm, this seemed to lack it from what I heard. At 20 something songs, The Focus Tape could've used more focus. 14 songs could've done the job.
